Anyone ever try this combo before and what was your pet load with it?

Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.

Buck, never tried this powder in my .300's...seems to me somewhere I read it would only be suitable for very heavy bullets in the .30 caliber...I have seen reloads for sale at gunshows with this powder..they had 180's loaded with it and they were very slow..I suppose to those not thinking .300's at a cheap price would seem like a bargain..with low pressures the vel. was also low for that caliber...

I played with aa8700 (a twin to 870) a bit in my 300. It was slow, it burned dirty....but it was pretty accurate. I wouldnt consider it useful unless you want reduced loads and dont mind cleaning.

Don't own a 300, but it's the goto powder for a 30-378.
Research suggested it generated one of the fastest of loads with moderate pressure. Hopefully I have a life time supply, as the powder is no longer made.

I picked up a can of it because I got it for dirt cheap ($6.00) so I figured it was worth a chance. It's not listed in any of my Newer manuals but it is listed in my old lee book. It has a 180gr bullet starting at 78.5 and max 86.0. A 150 grain bullet starting @ 87.0 and max @ 87.0. The load for the 150 doesn't seem to make sense but I am shooting just 180's anyway.

I started some test loads and yes it is very dirty but hey it works. not my best load by far but acceptable for pennsylvania hunting.

Might be a good bet for 220-240 grain bullets. Some people use it for cast bullets but I suspect mainly because it is inexpensive.

H 870 works well in my pre-64 M 70 Super Grade -300 H&H.
Also good for the big Weatherby 300 & 378 cartridges, as well as the 8mm magnum.
Hodgdon recommends it for overbore magnums and the 50 BMG.

I am going to try it in my early M 70 in 375 H&H with some 350 gr Barnes bullets left.
Excellent medicine for creeping around in Canada & Alaska..IF you don't have a Model 71 in 450 Alaskan.

It is one of the last surplus ball powders offered by H.

I used a completely full case of it with 220gr Sierra Match bullets. Very accurate. No longer made, but US869 is the replacement for it.

Works good in the 25-06 with 120's, 264 with 140's, and 7mm mag with 160's. Dirty burning yup, inexpensive powder yup. Allways trade offs in life way the fug it is...mb
