I worked on one for an old guy local here a few years ago. It was internally very similar to a Mossberg but all steel aside from the aluminum trigger guard. Actually a pretty nice old shotgun.

The trigger guard/fire control unit is a weakness on some models of the high standard pumps as the stock bolt screws into the tang portion of the guard and it's prone to breaking.

I shot a C Higgins Model 20 (High Standard) 12ga short barrel with Power Pac choke system for goose hunting in the late 1960 and early 1970's, great shotgun. I had the same model in 16ga with a long barrel that I shot trap with, bar leagues multiple nights a week and meat shoots on the weekends. It digested thousands of very heavy handload (young and dumb) to the point lock up was so loose you had to point it skyward to make sure the round slid back against the breach block or it would misfire. I finally gave it to a guy that said he could fix it. It was a great handling shotgun and I was always one of the top club shooters with it.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

My wife’s semi-auto 20 gA got a workout today from the 10 year old neighbor who smoked some hand trap. Nic little shotgun.

I just picked up a High Standard Riot Gun, 18-7 Model K120. Pretty nice condition. It has a sling mounted and a really slick action.

About a year ago I bought my first High Standard shotguns, a 20 ga pump with vent-rib and 28" modified choke. I don't think the one I have has ever been fired. It is very stiff. I have a few boxes through it now and looking forward to it loosening a bit. Seems to be a very well made shotgun and I hit well with it. Enjoy yours! Rick
