LOL only on a site full of old dudes is 25 year old considered modern. I'm with you though, most stuff made in the last 20 years doesn't hold a candle. I thought some of the stuff Aaron Lewis made with Staind was good.

"Modern" is a relative term.

One of the first that pops into my mind is Kansas "Leftoverture." That was a great one. I'm sure many here wouldn't consider that to be modern, but someday they'll be as old as I am and they'll think the youngsters are fulloshit and listening to garbage.

Later stuff...I really like most of what The Hellecasters did, no particular release---they were all great.

I can't help but think that MTV did an awful lot to arrest the evolution of hard rock. Once it became all about the video production the quality of music took a steep nosedive and it killed hard rock. I lost interest in mainstream pop rock in the 80s...but after that there were a few releases that came to my attention that I thought were really good. Ah Via Musicom was a standout, I thought, but after that I dove back into the more obscure stuff I prefer---mostly guitar oriented and without vocals.

What passes for music these days baffles me. That's just the natural order of things, I guess.

As we age, it gets much harder to spend time talking about music with your friends like we did in our teens. There still is some great music being made, but it's a bunch harder to not only find it, but keep your mind open enough to like it. Which is kinda funny but sucks at the same time.

I'm still after finding another album that hits me like Dark Side of the Moon or Led Zep 2. You'll notice I'm 20 years behind the curve on 90% of the schidt I just posted! LOL

You hit that nail right on the head.
