They pushed a lot of people into being self employed in Commyfornia close to 20 years ago.
Now they are finding ways to punish us to try and force us to go back to being 1040 Employees instead of the 1099 guys.

If you do not like it you get no work or the crappy work.

I am Neither a 1040 nor 1099 guy.

I do not have to get anything from the people that hire me just the checks that pay me.

After being self employed for over 20 years I can not see myself going back to work under someones thumb.

This new generation if they can find the ones that want to work all go for the 1040 employment and work for penny's us old guys that want our independence have to find other avenues to survive.
I am glad that I am on the down hill slide for being employed.

Is not reporting income and paying taxes the only way the little guy can survive?

Get a jew accountant. Lying to the govt. is no longer a sin. Barter can be invisible if you network w/ people you trust. Appear to live simply and use cash whenever possible. The govt. rarely employs smart people, do not be afraidgrin

No, but with the extra IRS agents they can hound someone enough that it's impossible for them to run their business and deal with the IRS at the same time. It's quiet easy for them to make it so time consuming and expensive to comply with their demands that you can't stay in business.

Have you ever tried to fight a BS traffic ticket? Years ago I got a ticket for something I didn't do in a small Mississippi town, classic Roscoe P Coletrane type of deal. I wanted to fight it on principle but when I contacted a lawyer about it he said "It'll start at $4000 to fight it and you'll still probably lose". Faced with that I just bit my tongue and paid the $200 fine.

Same principle applies.

Small businesses don’t have the money to hire high dollar accountants and lawyers to fight the irs when they come knocking. They essentially could bury any small business if they wanted to.

I'm a cpa among other things. I've not seen much of that except for people who choose not to report income, overstate expenses or don't pay tax. Of course those folks generally think they're victims.

Only a CPA would think more IRS agents is a good thing.
Just imagine a simple flat tax that everyone payed, the wailing would be heard on the moon…

I don't practice, so more IRS agents doesn't impact me as long as they legitimately collect more revenue than they cost. I also think the flat tax would be beneficial and wouldn't wail if implemented. However, I suspect you might not like the rate necessary to be revenue neutral. Under the current system many seem to only report income and pay tax if they think one of those agents might examine their return.

Yep the smaller guys who use Quickbooks etc to do their accounting themselves are the ones who will get the shaft. Better make sure they put everything in the proper categories etc and have good documentation. Thankfully I dont deal with the "back office" stuff personally anymore other than writing checks and making deposits. Payroll is done by a payroll service and I have a girl who does my billing and accounts payable. Monthly I forward all necessary info/documents to my accountant....who actually is a retired IRS auditor who handles us and few other clients. Not cheap but much better than dealing with tax etc stuff on my own.

Maybe all those new agents will be looking into all of the wealthy .gov employees… Amazing how many retire as millionaires after a life of public service

Why will they necessarily get the shaft if they document and account for things properly? Those things are pretty necessary to properly run a business, prevent dishonesty, deal with lenders etc.
