It varies. Lots of times the "iPhones" are cheap Chinese knock offs. Cheap android phones are usually preferred as the sim and memory cards can be hidden if facing detention and then swapped to a different phone. Could be coming from DHS as a way to be able keep contact with the catch and release types.

They give illegals anything they want. A monthly salary, free phone, free clothes, free food, free education, free driver's license, and in some cities a government do nothing job. Yes, the American taxpayer foots the bill.
