I own a Marlin 917V wood stock heavy barrel that will honestly drives tacks at 100 yards. I purchased this rifle new close to 20 years ago and threw a 3x9 Tasco on and never looked back. Eye relief has always been not the greatest, I feel like I have to force my head forward to see through the scope correctly making it uncomfortable. The rings and scope are both mounted as far back as possible. An upcoming prairie dog shoot has got me wanting to correct this problem and I am curious if anyone else has this problem and if they have found a good solution.
Huntsman that may be the best solution, I tried 3 different scopes on it last night and had the same problem with all of them. I will check the LGS for a set of extension rings that will fit the narrow rail first.
Try a set of BKL rings/mounts. They are a cantilever style and have solved a lot of my mounting problems although I think they only come in matte finish now. I have a set on my 880SQ and it fits like it was made for it.

Mad okie: I have the same Rifle (Marlin 917-V but in 17 Mach2) and have NO problems with the scope eyebox - I got this scope cheap in a trade deal. The scope on my Marlin is a Vortex Crossfire II 3x9 variable. Maybe a different scope will solve your "head forcing" situation? Good luck on your upcoming Hunt. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
A 3/8 to extended weaver adapter widens the mounting options. I would upgrade the scope anyway for a prairie dog hunt. They are a prime conditions for a cheap scope induced headache/blurry vision.
