Lever actions are new to me. I've always been a bolt action guy. With that said, I've thought about trying to load some coated bullets in some lever guns (.357 and .44 Mag). This would be for plinking and some hunting. However, I have some questions.
1) How fast can you run them? I've heard varying speeds but no two sites/posts agree. This is for straight powder coated bullets with no gas check. 2) I understand the Keith style bullets don't feed well in lever guns? What do you run that feeds well? 3) Do I need to slug the barrel to determine my bore or can I buy off the shelf from someone like Missouri Bullets?
Anything else I'm missing?

Speed without leading depends on the powder as well as the hardness, and the rifle, but generally you can push most of those commercially cast 14-16bh handgun caliber cast bullets up to 1400-1500 without issues.
Feed is also rifle dependent to a large degree, but RNFP slugs generally feed pretty well through most levers. Results feeding SWC, FP, and RN can be hit or miss.

I powder coat my bullets for these rifles and use a semi wadcutter with no problems feeding.
As for load data i use the Lyman book and a few older load books that i have found over the years.
Even in the 41 mag i have not had any coating strip off or leading in the forcing cone.
It does seem to be a little more forgiving in regards to speed,it is just slicker than lube.

How about 30-30 powder coated bullets. How fast can these be pushed, I was told no more than 2100 fps.
