Was working in a [bleep] little factory, hot in there was sposed to work 2 hrs OT. forman came running through the plant screaming the king is dead the king is dead shift ends in 10 minutes everybody go home didn't know I thought King England or something went home thought about it went looking for a new job the next day never went back.

I was in the Airforce, stationed in the U.K. Had spent the two prior days on ground alert, flew an eight hour Silk Purse mission that day. Get home, walk in the door to find my wife all teary-eyed. I'm thinking either she had a rough time while I was gone with our 18 month old daughter or she got a call from home delivering bad news. I ask her what's wrong, she says Elvis died. I'm roling on the floor laughing my a$$ of asking her if she's frekin serious.
I still remind her and everyone else about that day... 🤣

I was 16 when he died, and actually wasn't a fan of his, so it didn't really hit me much. Just a news item.
I appreciated his music much more after his death than before.
My cousin (same age as me) had been a fan of his for years when he died, so it hit him a bit hard.
