I recently purchased a very early Dakota model 76 that will not eject. Does anyone have any simple fixes for this with sending the rifle back to Sturgis?
Ok, the ejector seems to be in the right position to eject the case.
Can you tell if the claw extractor is losing it's grip on the case too early in the cycle?
If the front of the extractor claw looks unmodified and isn't worn or broken, then I'm thinking the extractor needs a little tuning, which is easy to do. Basically just bending it in/out to achieve the right release timing.
But since Dakota parts are likely hard to get, I'd have a good gunsmith (with M70 expertise) tune it.
The extractor holds the case firmly throughout the bolt cycle. I spoke with Parkwest and they will look at it, just didn’t really want to deal with shipping.
