I have 5 Muzzleloader's all together, 2 are Knights, 1 Hawken, 1 Traditions & 1 Remington 700ML . I have to say I love my Knight Muzzleloader's, I have scope's on both of them, and a Thumbhole Stock on the Knight Extreme .45 Model. The Knight's are #1 in my book. They have Never let me down. I Still shoot the other's at the range, But i only like to Hunt with my Knight's. Just my Preferance.

My favorite is not the one I will be hunting with most. The most enjoyment I get with this sport is from my long-gun Traditions Shenandoah 50 cal with 1-66" twist. Everyone that sees it marvels at it's beauty and length. Everyone asks to hold it. Eveyone who watches me shoot it at a range wants to shoot it. Other blackpowder shooters nearby shake their heads at how well it shoots 245 grain Powerbelts and Buffalo Ballet conicals just as well as roundballs.

Patch & ball rifles are a blast (no pun intended). Working up loads for them is alot of fun too. My T/C Omega with the stainless steel and laminated stock draws compliments and shoots much farther than my rounballer. My traditional Traditions 50 cal Kentucky pistol is also an eye-pleaser, but I'm thinkin' about sellin' it for a Traditions Buckhunter in-line 50 cal pistol that's stainless/synthetic. I'm also considering another rifle this year too. I will wait until all the new models are out before I decide. The (3) I have in mind are the soon released Knight 52 caliber, the Winchester Apex Magnum and a relatively new to the market Austin & Halleck 420 mag.

What models are your Knights, Traditions & Hawkens?

My 50 cal Lyman Flintlock is my fav, shooting the Maxi ball that I cast.

No wait my 50 cal T/C renegade caplock is my fav, no the Lyman, wait the T/C, oh heck, those two are my favorites...

of course they are the only ones I own.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

Blammer,

I'm glad you brought up the Renegade. That's another one I'm considering. Fox Ridge Outfitters offers the Renegade in a 58 caliber with a 1-48" twist for $399. If I go with another caplock, it's that one or their T/C Hawkens for $499. On either one -- for $10 more, they will slap-on a 1-66 twister... but I already own a roundballer.

I only own one, a Cabela's T/C knockoff. Caplock, cal. is .58. I shoot Buffalo Bullets in it. This sucker is a STOMPER!!! I still have green and yellow shoulder bruises from last week's sighting-in session. But, when shooting at game, I never have recalled the smack of recoil from any rifle. I really bought it in the hopes that someday I will draw a Colorado resident Moose permit. In the meantime, I intend to use it on elk this fall.

Try these in your 58 caliber. Your shoulder can thank me later!

Only have one, and I love it. A 54 cal. TC Hawken that I put together from a kit 20 years ago. Never hunted much with it till last year and whacked 2 WT's with it. Used Hornady Great Plains bullets and am working on patched round ball loads for this year.

First of all, welcome aboard Mazter and Triple 7. It's good to get some new blood, even from them contemptable in-line shooters!

PA was a flintlock only state up until a couple years ago, so both mine are flinters. The first one is a CVA Pennsylvania Rifle. It's pretty similar to your Shanandoha, maybe a bit longer. It's a .50 with a 1 in 66 twist, and adorned with nice brass work. Good shooter with rd balls and buff bullets, but not so good with conicals.

The second is also a CVA, this time a Hawken in .50 cal. This one has a 1 in 48 twist, and I have yet to try anything in it that it WON'T shoot good. Patched balls to sabot pistol bullets, the gun likes 'em all.

Both are hunters, I use the long one on ambush hunts, and carry the Hawken for still hunting. Both have accounted for deer too, though I just got the Hawken last year.

As to picking one over the other, I really can't say. The Hawken is better to hunt with in the brush, where me and the deer hang out, but the long gun is so purdy, and I'm a vain type of guy!

Nice guns 7mmbuster!

I held the longer Pennsylvania prior to the Shenandoah purchase, but my hunting is limited to public lands & lugging a 40" barrel around while searching for deer sign -- then finding the right spot to sit swayed me into a little shorter barrel.

I notice your CVA Pennsylvania has a smaller trigger guard than the Hawkens. I was in Cabelas a week b/4 I bought the Shenandoah. Their Pedersoli Blue Ridge rifle intriged me so I went a couple of aisles down, grabbed a new pair of heavy hunting gloves off the rack, put the right one on my hand, then went back to the gun counter, shouldered the Blue Ridge but could not function both triggers with those heavy gloves -- so I vetoed that rifle. It gets c-o-l-d sometimes here in Michigan during deer hunting season.

Thanks, Trip7.

And you're right about that long gun being a handfull in brush. That's what prompted me to get a Hawken.

We have 2 seasons here in PA. The early deal is Doe only, and it last a week in mid October. The book says ANY muzzle loading gun, so a few ex-friends ( ) got in-lines. I use my long rifle then, as the deer are usualy not too worked up yet. You can usualy get a good ambush set up, if you know where to hunt.

The REAL ML season is flint only, and it starts the day after Christmas, lasting 5 or 6 weeks. This is after rifle season, so the deer are always pretty edgy, not to mention nocturnal. If you know your terrain and wind, you can sometimes get a good shot, but you mostly gotta work for it. We also get a few guys together and drive off some ridges and woods. Either way, you want something pretty handy, and the Hawken fits the bill nicely.

The trigger guard does look small in the pic, but the gloves I wear in January will fit in there. They're my regular hunting gloves, and I'm pretty careful when buying gloves about being able to use them with all my guns.

Just have one, and it is definitely my favourite. I have a Traditions Hawken Woodsman in 50 cal flinter. It is more fun to shoot than should be legally allowable. I want a Lyman GPR in 54 cal, and I am debating either flinter or cap. In Canada we don't need a FFL to buy a flinter, so that is likely the way I'll go. I am using PRB's in the 50 with its 1:48 twist, and I am getting inch and a quarter groups at 50 metres with the right patch and load. Just loving the whole deal!

Caplock's only here! Have .54 Hawkin Hunter and .54 GPR kit I'm building. Glad those in-lines work out for you. I've tried them and prefer my caplocks.
