Could never utilize an EV where we live...the cold, the distances. It'd be lunacy to even try it.

That said, for the urban sheeple that drive 3-4000 miles a year around San Diego from Trader Joe's to the condo a used Prius or similar plug-in EV pos is probably a smart move.

My bud just got an E-bike to elk hunt off of, wife rode it and said it was a cool ride....he supposedly gets 30-40 miles/charge outta the damn thing,

Really should just put wind turbines on cars so they'd charge themselves. Duhhh.

I commute 90 miles round trip from the woods to the city four days a week.
There is a lot to be said for EV's, but until they are a practical, cost saving alternative, I won't have one.
Snow and cold are a huge factor here.
CNG or hydrogen may be a better alternative, but the .gov is shoving EV's down our throat.

My son has a friend who sells Solar equipment and this guy is the true salesman. So much so he believes his own BS even though he knows nothing about electricity. This guys is an Ivy League graduate who you would think would know better. He makes it sound in his sales pitch like solar is the "wave of the future" and you can power your whole house with a few solar panels on the roof of your house. In actuality most people can cover the roof of their house with solar panels and they will produce about 3,000 watts- enough for about 2- 15 amp 120V circuits. Turn on your toaster and microwave and you are using the whole of the available solar power. And, of course, nothing available at night unless you have an absurdly expensive invertor and battery system to store some of the electricity you are producing during sunny days. Keep in mind solar hasn't had any major improvements in efficiency in over 50 years except for the cost of producing these meager panels . And if you happen to have a leak in your roof from the installation process any time in the life of the house or solar panels, you just used up more than your cost savings in power doing the repair...

The same logic applies to EVs. Even though Elon Musk is leading the charge in making improvements in the electric motors and battery packs and the other manufacturers are happy to follow his lead and steal his advancements. But we are just about at the end of EV development except for ways to install them in different vehicles. Incremental advancements in battery development will never be enough to make EVs useful for a vast number of people who use their vehicles for more than a short commute to work and back. The cost of battery pack replacement is absurd and should be enough to turn off most EV shoppers at first glance if they have any sense at all because all EVs will need their battery packs replaced probably within 5-10 years- at a cost much higher than their cars are worth, so they become junk and are scrapped and you start over again- losing your vehicle investment completely .

And consider the impact to the grid- California, the state leading the charge to eliminate IC engines has possibly the worst maintained and least reliable grid in the country. Even the best installed grids in the US can't come close to handling the power required to charge and EV in even half the garages in this country. The cost to upgrade the grid would be astronomical it would make our national debt look like a piggy bank...

We don't even have to get into the manufacturing carbon footprint and the human and environmental costs of extracting the precious metals and exotic materials needed to build EVs. Consider that Lithium leach ponds are so deadly that birds that land near them die within minutes. And most of the Lithium being mined in the world is being done by either slave labor or child labor in despicable conditions. Doesn't matter because no one is listening.

I guess my simple answer is no, I won't be buying any EVs any time soon. But then, I'm almost 70 so my impact on this earth will probably be pretty minimal until I'm gone regardless....

So, how do you charge that bike after 30-40 miles in elk camp? A gas generator I suppose?

Anyone thinking of buying one should take a trip to one of those coal fired power plants and watch the smoke bellowing out of Those stacks all 1000 feet plus of them.

They will change there mind on how they are saving the planet, like I said in another thread "they will see how the sausage is made"

I know I am not an engineer but the base of those stacks look way to small in diameter to support something that tall. oh well time or gravity will tell.

That is what it boils down to in reality. Once they figure out this perpetual motion deal I'm in.

Dammit man! Think of all the fluids you wont be forced to buy and change! All of the moving parts you wont be forced to replace. All of the fuel you wont be forced to purchase and have go bad as apparently all gasoline does in six seconds. All of the emissions tests you wont have to pass. Sounds like hell on earth.

Can I get an Amen

My brother bought a Tesla for $65 Grand. He loves it and it is his primary car. I wired him up a 220 charging station in his carport. I used a dryer receptacle he bought at Lowes. Took about one hour. I'm not licensed but am pretty good with residential wiring.

Brother didn't vote for Bernie, in 2016 he didn't even vote. He is far, far from a Greenie.

Tomorrow we will roll down to the YMCA in the Tesla, a 19 mile trip. I like to ride around in the electric car, it is fast. Really fast, and smooth and quiet.
Maximum range is 220 miles. If running a/c, range is 140 miles on a good day. Brother has had the car for 2 years. He has 2 guys online offering him $5 grand more than he paid for it, cash. The waiting line for a new Tesla now is 10 months.

You put down $200 cash deposit and order your new Tesla, and wait 10 months. Such a low deposit because Tesla doesn't care if you show up in Charlotte at the dealer, to pick it up, or not. Your new Tesla arrives at the dealer, you better show up in 72 hours with the cash, or they will sell the car to the next person in line.

As soon as the Big Three realize its more profitable to sell EV's...they will dump gas so fast it will make your head spin.

Enjoy your high maintenance costs while you can suckers!

Post up a picture of your electric John Deere. That will be funny when you have 27 recharging stations strategically placed around the ranch…

Thats the point.

You townies are going to be forced to convert so we have reliable access to hydrocarbons out here in the real world.

That way we can feed you dumbasses and you will stay Urban....just where the NWO needs you to be.

Sheesh.

BS. They are going to have us eat bugs and Bill Gates Co lab grown meat from "fetus" (dead baby) stem cells.

We will be "self sufficient". You will no longer plunder the earth or kill poor innocent cows, you Neanderthal. grin

My brother lives in a log cabin on top of a mountain. He despises socialists, but other than that doesn't much give a crap about politics. He minds his own business. Good Lord how could you not vote in 2016? But, that's my brother.

He also has a 4WD Nissan Frontier, plus an M1 Garand, a Bersa Thunder in .380 and a double barrel Savage 20 gauge.
