Hmm.. just glanced through it, but it looked like Olin is keeping Winchester ammunition and selling off it's metal businesses? Long article, might have got it wrong.

I never said that the Winchester ammunition part of the corporation was being sold wink . in the title of the post , I put Winchester ammunition in ( ) to help identify Olin for those who didnt / dont know smile ..

You gents have to look deeper into it .depending on how liberal the new ownership is , they could stop the ammunition part of the business and channel all the metals into other durable goods / consumer market ... They are concentrating on the chemical side of the business and it now looks like they will become the worlds largest manufacturer of commercial bleach

By selling off the metals division , it will cost them more to make the ammunition as opposed to having the metals in house - not to mention the expediting / purchasing problems that will add to the cost .. translation = be prepared to pay more money for ammo and components

I dont know if you gents were watching the copper market a while ago , but I wouldnt want to be the buyer ..

With the current needs of the US military, doubt anyone in the ammo making business would get out of it right now.

This is true , but will not last forever .... which leads me to :
A buddy I know owns a gun shop and he's telling me that factory .308 winchester ammo is getting hard to find . He ran out and the civilian demand was high and none of his distributors had any to send him . Then finally he was able to track some down and stock piled 30K worth . This was during the summer . He said over half of what he bought has been sold ......

Now I have been hearing the .223 Remington is starting to get scarce . Is this true ? I don't buy factory stuff , so I don't know .... I use the components that I have been buying for the last 18 years ( Clinton scared me ), so I don't know what the current climate is like .....

I doubt a company of this size would base a decision like that on whether the execs swing to the left or the right...they'll keep their eye on where the money is, and make their strategic decisions accordingly. Business is business.
