Joe has Hunter but I'm not that lucky crazy, so I'm going with the collective intelligence of the campfire as the smartest guy I know grin

There has to be at least three dozen kidney experts on here. Any magic bullets to raise your GFR level.

I don't know if this is a magic bullet, the DASH diet ( dietary approaches to stop hypertension) might help.

Apparently nothing flushes out the kidneys like a 6-pack of light beer. Not kidding.

Hydrating often raises measured GFR and mild dehydration makes it go down but neither really is changing the severity of the underlying chronic kidney disease (CKD). The key thing is identifying the cause of the CKD, like HTN, diabetes, etc. and controlling it as best as possible. Avoid NSAIDS as they are kidney toxic. Fortunately, we are born with much more kidney function than we need. Kidney function tends to decline with age as well. Best of luck and follow closely with your doctor.

My wife has raised her GFR level by limiting protein intake and staying away from processed meats.

Lots of good stuff on the internet about Barley water. Does it help ??? I don't know, not a Doctor and I'm not a kidney patient yet. I have done this when my GFR/Creatine was being monitored. Not constantly...but a come back in 6 weeks. Was back to normal, did it help ??? Who knows. Probably won't hurt and done right actually taste pretty good.

That's what I'm trying. I've cut out the Sam's hotdogs and pretzel and went to water, salads and apples.

I'll look into it, I just bought two bottles of glutathione.

I my try the light beer. I'm just trying to get through a physical, most of the time it's my cholesterol they give me crap about.

I'll take a look at the barley water but the light beer is pretty intriguing grin

My wife told me she takes 4 to 5 CO-Q10 caplets a day. Her kidney disease is from Nexium but the damage is severe enough she won't get her kidney function fully returned. She has gone from state 4 to stage 3 with diet and the CO-Q10.

My kidney function was excellent for an aging chap - until a medical mistake put me in deep danger and gaining recovery called for use of some serious meds. Those quickly damaged the kidney function to the point where experts were considering dialysis.

Eventually pulled through and the kidneys started working fairly well, but overall kidney function is now marginal. Monitoring Creatinine, etc. more than the GFR - which I have learned to be a more gross indicator created by composite, and not so reliable for each individual.

Individual chemistry is involved as I understand it, but I do go easy on intake of certain foodstuffs and COMPLETELY avoid NSAIDS. I have been running along at the high edge of the tolerance scale, but the indicators have not become worse. Actually have gotten a bit of improvement due to also taking allopurinol to avoid gout (reduces urea) and some flomax to help the release.

If this is helpful to anyone, good. YMMV.
