Henrico, Chesterfield, etc... (i.e. the metro counties surrounding Richmond) have concealed carry but not open carry. I have never seen anyone open carry before. You go way out to the small town around the Blue Ridge Mtns, and stop into a local mom 'n pop store somewhere, and you'll see someone openly carrying a Glock or a .38 special revolver.

Edit: For me personally? How the "F" can you conceal a full frame, heavy steel, 1911 .45 ACP? I have a beautifully comfortable shoulder holster for concealed carry, but (obviously) have to wear a jacket. If I try an IWB holster, it pulls my pants down!

When I was living in Dixie County Florida, I recall reading the demographics of the state. Dixie County was the poorest county of the state, very sparsely populated, but ranked #1 per capita for Concealed Carry Licenses! And I am willing to bet that there were many more that had firearms on them or in their vehicle, regardless of Concealed Weapons License! LOL

Hmm.... sitting on my front porch I just heard a string of maybe five fairly distant pistol shots, not that unusual, followed by police sirens, which was.

Our police chief has stated that one in twenty parked cars here has a firearm left in it. One in twenty sounds like a reasonable estimate to me, I’m gonna guess one in twenty people on either side of the law.

Armed teenagers? WAG on my part, one in 250?

Same in Florida.

PS, I started the process of seeking a concealed carry permit immediately after the Sunday morning I was the near victim of an attempted strong arm robbery at the age of 17. Had it by the age of 19, and have not been without the option of carrying concealed since, other than in those areas where it was illegal for any but law enforcement to carry.

Dumb ass

There are plenty of them out there.

WAG -armed around here, about 10% in town, 75% away from town.

LOL, I see women walking on the roads out here in the sticks with no one around and think what a fool one would be to mess with them.

Not unusual to hear gunfire around here….particularly when my neighbor gets home from work! Kinda like Robert Duval in Apocalypse Now….. Nothing like hearing the “booms” echoing up and down the river bottom! Hence the name of our place…..Echobluff! 😁 memtb

We have constitutional carry here in Kentucky. I see a heckuva lot more people carrying "open" than I ever expected to, usually someone with a plastic 9mm of some sort, in a nylon el-cheapo holster. Usually a younger family man, at that. I have no objections to it. I am more discreet than they are. I try not to be a gun snob, either (I just don't like plastic 9mms much), but I loathe nylon as a holster material.

I won't guess percentages, but probably 50% of the folks around here have something in their vehicles, at least, along with whatever they have on their persons, male or female. Before WallyWorld asked people not to carry in their stores, I saw a blonde woman carrying a single-action revolver in a leather holster, which I found amusing.

I would guess a fairly high percentage in my rural PA territory. Don’t see a ton of open carriers on a daily basis for the most part. I personally favor concealed in public, more open when I’m home. I do have a friend or three that likes to open carry a lot. Great to have choices!

In the rural, really rural areas of my county, hardly anybody carries, there is really no threats. Of course, like any rural area, firearm ownership is very high. A few years ago, when the Mex Cartels were growing on Forest Service land, most everyone out in the Ginsengs carried rifles during outings, fishing, hunting, camping, hobby gold mining, mushrooms, woodcutting etc. Now the Mex cartels are gone, the Hmong growers own their own property, they kill each other occasionally but leave us hicks alone. I do know several families that shop in Southern Oregon on a biweekly or monthly basis, and they are armed when they go to the big town. Local meth heads pretty much prey on each other and leave everyone else alone. So, no real reason to carry here. A conversation at the gas station might sound something like, Hi Bill, you got a gun with ya? Mmm, I think so, Flint, lemme look in the truck...whaddya need it for?

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

In "woods/mountains", I see more people carrying little bells than firearms.

In urban settings, I probably print more than citizens and illegals.

We had preemption laws in Virginia too until 2020 when the state legislature just repealed it to all allow local governments to restrict firearm rights.

I'm guessing the number of Concealed Carry permit holders is far lower than you would think, less than 20%. Far less in most states. The problem is, so many states are legal for constitutional carry, which makes it impossible to know. I am NEVER more than an arms length away from a gun. For the most part if I have my pants on, my gun is in it's holster, even when I'm at church. As far as the number of guns in homes I would guess that it's a pretty high percentage with the exception of Boise proper but even with liberals any more a fairly high percentage even have guns in their home. They just don't think you should have the same constitutional benefits. Of course that's consistent with liberals. In the case of my WAG, I would think that approximately 25% of Idahoans and especially Canyon county residents have access to handguns either on their person or their vehicles.
