Winchester 94 in 7-30 water, or 35 Remington on a mini mauser action.

Another vote for the 300 H&H and i'd pay $815 for it without hesitation as long as it is a quality build.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Guys

Go down to your local big outdoor store or mom & pop gun shop--- look at the bolt guns prices. IF THE QUALITY IS THERE, I don't think Winchester is that out of line on prices.

For me it'll have to be a supergrade in '06. Just about as american as baseball and apple pie. One of my sons will thank me profusely someday. Until then I get to play with it.

And high polish blue steel. There is enough cost-savings matte stuff on the market.

And please, Santa, offer some good iron sights, and drill and tap the receiver for an aperture sight, just like the old pre-64. I'll pay the extra $10.00 a hole.

I'm discourged that no one beat me to my suggestion of a full length Sporter in .280 Remington. I don't know what causes this malady, but I have thought for a long time that would be a neat rifle.

My dealer showed me his early copy of the 2008 Winchester catalog today. Great photo's of the new M70 and several very nice drawings of the new trigger. If the rifles are as nice as the photo's then they may have another winner on their hands. The Supergrade was only listed in two cartridges, the Featherweight in several (no WSSM cartridges, the three WSM, no 7mm REM MAG - 300 Win Mag was the only traditional magnum listed). They make a statement about making them in Columbia SC. Also re-introduced was the 1300 pump, but now referred to as the Speed Pump (they had both names on it the last few years). It would not surprise me to see the M94 in 2009. Odessa

If they offer a SS Classic in 223 I'll have one. IIRC there were a few sharpshooter custom shop rifles like this but that's the only CRF SS M-70's in 223, and I want one!

SS Classic in 264Win I might have to have too.

I've got the three I want:

.308 in a custom Model 70 Palma rifle. smile

7mm Rem mag in a stainless controlled-round feed rifle

.300 WSM in a Coyote with the laminate stock & stainless barrel.

Don't want any others. These do the job just fine. In fact, the 7mm & .300 WSM overlap each other too much and one may go on the auction block.

Winchester HMFIC: "Okay, workers, we're going to make a quality rifle. I want you to take the time ($) to fit the bolt well, polish up all contact surfaces, make sure the barrel is good and mounted straight and true, and fix all the other things the Shooting Public has been clamoring for."

Accountant: "No problemo, boss. But just so you kow, that will increase unit cost by 22%."

HMFIC: "Do it. The Shooting Public has spoken, they want Quality."

Store clerk: "Hey, Mr. Public, we got a bunch of new Model 70's in. Boy, they sure are a quality rifle now. You should feel that bolt and watch the way they feed and function - like a Swiss watch. Bob there bought one right away and took it to the range, factory ammo averaged .8" for 10 groups!"

Shooting Public: "Holy S***! They cost $815?!?! Fuggedaboutit! Lemme look at that used 710 again..."
How true... Sad, but true...

It would be a beautiful thing if the "featherweight" actually had a comparable weight to a Rem Mountain Rifle.

Why? We already have lightweight Remingtons. To get an M70 down to that weight we'd have to lose what makes the M70 notaremington.

Kimber did a pretty nice job of it with the 8400 Classic making a 24" barreled long action @ 7 #.

"Sporter Deluxes" and "Featherweights" ought to have a little more distinction than stock styling.

That's all ...

Of the calibers I'd like to see and think will do well...
Leave off the WSMs and for certain leave off the WSSMs, sorry to those who think they are the cat's meow.

Your standard run of 270, '06, 7mm Mag, 300 Mag and 338 Mag for most of the rifles they bring out, but it's the "Feather Weight" that needs some attention to caliber choice in my opinion.

I would say (other than your obvious choices):

Short Action
250 Sav., 260 Rem

Long Action
257 Roberts, 6.5x55 SE, 280 Rem

GE,

I didn't care for what I saw when I took the action of my Kimber M84 out of the stock. Here I was expecting a nice, old-fashioned flat-bottomed action to go along with its CRF and three position safety, and instead I found a round-bottom receiver with a Remington-style recoil lug. It was as shocking as if I lifted the skirts of a school marm and found a "free parking" tattoo and piercings.

I'm aware you don't need anything more than a Remington for accuracy, but if that's all we need from our rifles, the the Remington sits right there waiting for us. Personally, I prefer the notaremington models.
