Howdy.
I am unable to find scope bases that are properly drilled for the factory D&T on the receiver bridge. Apparently there was two different hole spacings in the production of this rifle and the current industry standard FN Mauser mounts only match the foward holes on the receiver ring. One piece mounts leave the rear hole between the two in in the rifle, and two piece mounts are too close together. There HAD to be a proper Weaver, Redfield, Luepold or other brand at one time for this rifle. Suggestions?AW

AW, What is the distance C to C of the mount spacing? I have a couple of older Williams, one piece bases with ring set ups that came off older comercial Mausers.

Adobe-I have two of the Higgins FNs and both have a longer hole spacing than standard FN. I have Weavers on one that my gunsmith made to fit. The other has Talley two pc I ordered here on the Fire. Talley sells them with .860" spacing-that fit my rifle perfectly.

My 1990 Redfield catalog lists Mount #511134 for the FN, same as the Mk-X. #511137 for the M-98 Mauser.
My M-50 J.C. Higgins has Redfield bases.
Also is listed Weaver #45 and #46. Hope this helps....

If you like Conetrols you may want to contact them, 1-800-CONETROL I have had good luck with their mounts and they claim to be able to fit more rifles than any other maker. Or, you could just sell me that old gun!!!!

My Model 50 had three holes drilled in the rear ring. Got the bases and rings from Talley. If you can't find the bases on their web site, just give them a call. Good people.

Thanks for the replies. I Just spoke with a tech over at Warne this AM and he fully understood the issue and actually had some non standard bases in stock that I ordered on a drop ship through Lock Stock and Barrel. Sounds as though there are still a lot of these actions D&T'd like mine that still get set up from time to time. If these don't do the deed then I will check out the Talley suggestion. I saw some Talley mounts on a Dakota the other day and they were nice. I've had this old J.C. Higgins rifle for years and haven't seriously used it. It'll likely end up as a kid's deer gun for a while since the stock was chopped for a pad before it came to me. About 12" LOP with a thin pad and 13.5" with a Triple mag gives some latitude for growing kids. 150 grain .30/30 or.300 Savage class loads in a .30/06 should work out real good. Probably drop on a Simmons 44 Mag 2x10 that I bought a long time ago and never used. AW
