Cool book. They are going up in price for some reason. Especially over the last year? Wondering why??

Good book. As good as Rule? Curious as to opinions.

Not as informative as Rule's book.

Photos not as crisp either! It has good information and I am glad I have a copy!

Whitaker's book published 1978 and Rule 1996 I believe. So it seems that Whitaker paved the way for Rule. Rule has more info as it has more pages but, it seems like there are more Rule books out there than Whitaker's. I have both and it is nice to confirm information of one with the other when possible.

Gnoahh: Not even close but I have two copies of Whitakers book - including the original 1978 "bronze" cover finished edition and the revised 1981 "silver" cover finished edition.
And the original publication date of Roger Rule's "The Riflemans Rifle" was 1982.
Long live the Riflemans Rifle!

Thanks for the original publication dates. I just used the copyright dates from the books I had on hand. Hence the "I believe" caveat in my original posting.

Again, thanks for the dates as I can now check my other copies of these books to see if they might be first editions.

I have Whitaker's books published in 1978 and 1981.
Both Rule books are copyrighted in 1996 and it does not say revised on the copyright page. Any idea as to how many "copyright" dates there are in Rule's book?

Marley7x57: All four of my "original" (first editions) of Roger Rule's Book "The Riflemans Rifle" are copyrighted in 1982 (three standard editions and one Deluxe, leather bound, slip cased, limited edition 1 of 500).
It is my understanding that sometime, much later, after the original edition run was done (perhaps 1996?) and became so valuable there was a photo-plate "copy" of the original edition made - first in hardback then in soft back styles.
These latter editions are informative and worth money but not nearly as valuable as the original editions - if THAT is what you are driving at?
I have NO idea if or if not the 1996 editions are marked "second edition" or what - I was just never interested in them mostly due to the lesser quality of the photos.
Enjoy those fine books there is a wealth of knowledge in them.
Long live the Riflemans Rifle.

I’d love a copy of Rule’s book if anyone has one for sale. Not a collector, just want to read the book.

You can buy the soft cover edition on Amazon it's reasonable.

It’s all relative I guess. It’s half a tank of gas. And if you’re going to be buying them, it will pay dividends.

No, I get it. They are collectors items. I just have no interest in the collector value. Book collecting isn’t my thing. I just want to read it. Is there an E book version somewhere?

VarmintGuy-many thanks for the information. I will be looking to purchase a first edition Rule book. Especially so now knowing that the quality of it is better than my 1996 dated books.

Its relative for sure. I have a soft cover edition because I don't want to mess up my 1982 first edition hard cover that is roughly worth about $400. The nice thing about the soft cover is you can highlight it, right in it, etc. etc. I've used mine quite a bit. The pictures are not as nice as the original, but the information is all the same. To me it's damn near priceless and well worth the $90.. Like I said in my first post, I have seen the Whitaker book selling for quite a bit lately. Is there a reason for the recent increase in value??? The Whitaker book never brought as much as Rules book. Now they are damn near neck in neck. I'm wondering what changed??? My books are still in boxes after the move, but I made sure I took the soft cover Rifleman's rifle book out so I can look things up when I need to. A very handy source of info there.

Just buy the soft cover. Its well worth it, when you consider the original's are selling for $400..
