I’m going to try and kill a buck with my grandfather’s .303 carbine this fall and may take it to northern Maine. Anyone have a solid load/bullet they’d recommend? Not interested in a max pressure load. I have the old Lyman and Ken Waters data.

Thanks.

I used to use 33.5 gr W748/170 gr. Speer or Hornady. That worked fine for me. I got the data from an old flyer from the early 90's that Winchester used to publish every year.

I know a lot of guys that load for 303 say that any good 30/30 load will work in the 303.

31.5gr of IMR4320 with a Hornady 170FN

34.1 gr of IMR 4320 or 31.0gr of IMR3031 with a 110gr Nosler ETip

28.0gr IMR3031 or 30.3gr IMR4320 with a Hornady 140 Monoflex

32.8gr A4064 with a Sierra 125gr Pro Hunter

Rifles are all individual animals, but those are all cloverleaf to golf ball sized groupers through my 303 at 50yds.

Anything that'll work for .30-30 will work for .303 Savage. More importantly, post pics when you pose the rifle next to dead stuff!

I have had very good results with 32 grains of Reloder 15 and 150 grain Hornady roundnose bullets. Good accuracy and deadly of deer.
