Anyone else had this??
Had my prostate shut everything down while I was Ocellated turkey hunting in Mexico. Long story shortened, it nigh killed me. BP was 283 over whatever when I hit the emergency room here in People's Demokratik Republic of Canadia. I disrecollect how much liquid thay had to drain out of me, but it took a week or more to do it. Got the TURP and all is well. Oh, yeah, the catheter; had one continuously for 3 weeks. Not fun but the hospital is a teaching center, so some of the nurses that were practicing on me were quite cute.

Had one put in several months ago during prostate recession surgery, so the going in part I was oblivious to. On the other hand, I was fully conscious when it came time to remove it. Let's just say it wasn't the most pleasant experience I've ever had.

Just waiting for one of you Jabronis to say your junk is so big they needed to stick a scuba snorkel in there.

I will take a a catheter over a chest tube anyway. I was awake in the helo when it went in and awake a week later when the doc pulled it out. Damn did that burn.
😁😅😅🤣🤣🤣

I had three chest tubes and a cath when I came out of open heart surgery. The nurse grabbed all three chest tubes and pulled them out as a bundle. I swear they were each 4' long on the inside. While it was uncomfortable I wouldn't say it was painful. As for the cath again removing it wasn't a big deal, until I had to drain my lizzard. What was really surprising was having the vent tube removed. I expected that to be rough, no where as bad as I had been led to believe. YMMV...

When my appendix was about to burst I had to piss so bad. Could not piss to save my life. They sent in the catheter team. I sent them running with all sorts of threats. Couple hours after that the retarded doctors at Freeport Memorial Hospital in IL decided maybe I should have a CT done, which I had been asking for for three hours at that point (never, ever go to Freeport Memorial Hospital for an emergency). Between the pain from the appendix at that point, and a dose of dilaudid to take the edge off, I managed to not get catheterized until they put me under. It was out before I woke up in recovery, but boy did it sure hurt to piss that first time. They told me when they put it in they got well over a liter of cola outta me.

I found myself in a airplane at 30,000 feet and couldn't go. When I finally got home I went straight to the emergency room and they drained close to a liter out of me. Rappaflo and tadafil helped with those issues and I started carrying the self catheters with me when I travel since that episode.

Pat85,

About a liter was alsowhat drained out of me with my 3 experiences of total-pee-failure!

The self-catheters are pretty cheap, and in my experience far less painful--probably partly because they can be inserted BEFORE everything closes up. You soon start to recognize the early symptoms, and the self-catheters apparently also help to relax the system.

From what my doc told me, some guys are totally dependent on the self-catheters, using at least half a dozen a day. While Finasteride pretty much solved my problem, still have the catheters handy just in case.

5 surgeries, all had catheters.

After first back surgery where the injury or surgery caused cauda equina, I couldn’t pee without self catheterizration a few times a day. It was a year before I could pee on my own.

I still have bladder issues that are getting worse as I get older.

Well….after a few months of taking the generic flo max I can pee again. I still use a catheter once in a while when I go on a trip. My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday, but my doctor is running a scope up to check my bladder Tuesday, because when they took the Foley catheter out it was irritated inside and the irritated places resemble cancer. I had blood in my urine probably cause I was doing too much, but that stopped in a few days when I started doing the self catheter thing. I had a pelvic scan in September, was OK, no signs of cancer. Hopefully the scope on Tuesday will be fine.

I’m not keen on getting simple prostatectomy surgery. I’m more afraid of needing to wear diapers than never getting a hard on again. My mom died on an operating table at 37, that ain’t helping either. I’ve been under a half dozen times, no problems, still nervous as hell. I’m really leaning towards canceling the surgery.

My PSA number has been high for 30 yrs. I’ve had 3 biopsies and two ultrasound procedures, but no cancer. It is going to be a long time until next Wednesday. I had things to do, it’s getting close to hunting season, was supposed to go to Cozumel Saturday week, not counting on it now. Bow season begins Oct 1, we will see.

Hanco, ask your Urologist about the Urolift implant and procedure.

You can DuckDuckGo it and familiarize yourself with it.
Good luck.

Was intubated and in a coma for 11 days in 2021. Covid (viral) pneumonia, pneumococcol (bacterial) pneumonia, and because the bacteria in my lungs had spread into my bloodstream, sepsis in multiple organs.

When the nurses removed the urinary catheter during the third day out of the coma, I didn't even feel it.

When they removed the rectal balloon that had been used to drain my bowels........I swear it felt like New Arrival Night at San Quentin!

I knew it was going to be bad when the nurse advised my wife to leave the room, she didn't want to be there when they did it. I actually screamed and collapsed in a heap on the bed.

Had one for my first knee replacement.
They scraped something inside because I was passing blood. Wouldn't send me home until it cleared up, so I spent 3 days in the hospital.

Prior to my second knee replacement, I asked the nurse for a low-dose Viagra to make the job go easier.
After she composed herself, she said a catheter wouldn't be necessary. LOL!!!

came pretty close one, had a bladder biopsy and the bleeding was clogging things up. Couldn't piss and doc said come in for catheter, which I did not want at all, so I went to the bathroom and pushed with every muscle I had. Shot off like a corked champagne bottle, shot piss and blood in a straight line up the wall and almost to the ceiling.

Wife was not amused, but the kids thought it was hilarious.

Some of you guys are mentioning severe discomfort when a cath is removed. It shouldn’t be that bad unless the nurse, or whoever, forgets to deflate the ballon on the end. Then it’s like pulling a grape through a straw.

Your urethra doesn’t like that and it will also feel like you’re passing ground glass for a day or two.

Brain tumor surgery. Foley catheter wasn’t inserted in far enough when it was inflated. Woke up from surgery and had a piss bag with urine and blood in it. WTF? Took a while to pry the fact that the nurse who inserted it had f’d up.

As an aside, my prostate is 4X normal (~180 cc). Had transrectal biopsy, MRI, transperineal biopsy. So far, no cancer. PSA jumped from 6 to 9 six months ago (on a 6 month monitoring schedule, Huntsman Cancer Center in SLC). Have a PSA and checkup next week.

I have to admit that I’m a member of this club. Caught or rather it caught me, Covid, in Oct 2020. Wound up in Covid ICU, on ventilator (3 of us survived), trach, Covid heel and toes, stage 4 sacral wound big enuff to put a big fist in, feeding tube, fecal drainage tube, eventually a colostomy bag, amputated several toes and heel, finally the left leg below the knee, about 10 operations and abradments, and oh yes a Foley for 7.5 months and intermittently thereafter for non flowing issues, surgeries and the like. Hard to stand and pee on one leg and with a big sacral wound above your rectum. I spent 14 months in specialty hospitals and nursing homes away from home. On the mend, mostly use walker and wheelchair, learning to use a cane. Getting skin grafts at home. Awoke from ventilator and could only talk with my trach button in and twiddle my thumbs. Also in a foreign land where Socialists held the highest office in the land. Had to call my wife to find out what happened. Had numerous bouts of pneumonia, UTIs, and adverse meds affecting my heart. I feel like Lazarus and really should not be here. Said goodbye to wife via FaceTime over a borrowed cell phone. Sons planned my funeral for 3 weeks - could not find the flash drive I left for them. Only prayers, a good wife, and the Lord got me thru this. You have a soul that will live somewhere forever. And you have choice as to where. This life is temporal and there’s a lot of things worst that dying- if you are prepared to die. Met some fine folks on this journey from all walks of life. Humbles you when you’re totally dependent on others for your comfort and wellbeing. Makes you appreciate lots of things.
