I got elk coming into the neighbors field outta BLM. I don’t have, and won’t get permission on that land. The thermals make the scent game usually in their favor. I can shoot cows with a rifle, but I wanna try to thump da bull………he is very nice. He was at 80 yards last night during legal hours but I had no calls with me ( first day home bad attitude) Didn’t think I would see elk yadda yadda etc. Should I try to call him across the fence on my land, I got two decoys…… or set up above them I got one lame mule , and two that are half broke. So thumping it closer to the tractor is a fat boys dream! What say U? Thanks

It’s earlyish in the season, and if he’s with cows I would definitely be trying to cow call him outta the neighbors field. Your decoy should add to your chances……

Update! Went after them with my 300 savage model T I only got to 400 yards Too far 4 me! I found a lone satellite bull to dink with archery…….it was a no go. Awful hot. Sighted in my model 88 284 with NP 150 s Woke up late this morning to bugling in the fields next to the house. Them buggers was back! Took the E bike to public land above the hay. 300 yard shot. Free hand Hit her in the sweet spot……..she must’ve dropped like a sack o potatoes 🥔. ( this being Idaho) I thought I missed! Following the herd I had the bull challenge me. Couldn’t convince my self to shoot again at them. Walking back to the binoculars I left by the fence I found her. She was laying 30 paces or so from them. The mules are in better shape than expected! Now Montana!

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style.
