I'm offering my HVA 1640 30-06 rifle with Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x33, Butler Creek lens covers, Timney trigger with safety. This was a project rifle back in 2013 that I published here. Details are in the link. Super slick action, typical HVA.

I loaded 130 Hornady hunting bullets due to light weight rifle and it shot them great, never tried heavier bullets. Those 130's will pass thru a WT chest at 3K fps with good exits and quick kills. Does a job on hogs, as well. I've long been a fan of light, fast bullets in the '06 for the kinda hunting we do locally. Bigger stuff, I'd go with heavier bullets. I hunted this rifle a few time, got off on other projects and it's been a safe queen ever since. I don't hunt as much these days, am thinning the herd.

As shown, it's 7#'s even, Timney breaks at 2 3/4#'s. Bore is about perfect, accuracy is excellent, gun was full length bedded due to the light weight barrel. Seems to have worked.

Will ship for $975. UPS has recently gone full woke, no more gun shipments. So, now I'll take it to my FFL bud who has a FedEx account and can ship to your FFL. Costs a bit more, but what ya gonna do....

Details on the build; rather long story, but should be interesting to most gun nuts. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/7622454/1

I'm trying to remember what these rings are. They look like older steel Weaver Grand Slam, but researching that topic shows different configuration, some with two screws per ring side, these have one, like Redfield and Leupold.

And, these are windage adjustable both ways, most now don't adjusts both ways. And, I can't find these exact rings in Brownell's Catalog, which makes me think they may not be current mfg. But, they work great, so don't guess it really matters.

Does anyone have an idea?

Beautiful rifle. If I didnt all ready have a nice lightweight '06 that would a great addition to the family. Although it would be tempting to swap out the '06 barrel for a 6.5x55.

I hate being finically responsible during this economy... if I had the extra, I would love to have it. Sure hope it goes to a nice home. Best of luck with the sale.

Thanks, guys. It is a nice, light, very accurate rifle.

My Loony OCD condition is pressuring me to ID these scope rings. I don't guess it's that critical, but you know how us Loony types think. I just can't remember.

DF,

The rings look like the Weaver Grand Slam rings. Those are their all steel rings. They've done well for me on several hard kicking guns.

Weaver make these in two models. Version one has the base clamp and lock screw on one side only. The second style has the base clamp and lock screw on both sides and can be used for windage adjustment.

"Need" is a 4 letter word....

"Want" is a better, more applicable 4 letter word.

I'll make you a deal on this one.

Nice rifle!
An individual can still ship long guns through USPS. Save a dime or two.

I was told this week at my local USPS office, they were no longer shipping guns. Now, that person didn't seem to bright, may not know, but was pretty emphatic.

UPS was a shipper until very recently. I had to take a gun to my FFL bud who has a FedEx account. He generated a shipping label on his computer while I watched.

So, who knows. Woke is everywhere.

DF,

You've got your shipping already worked out, but your post office is full of crap.

I shipped a rifle last week. I had to go through three levels of bureaucracy, all the while showing them a copy of their own shipping regulations, before I finally got to someone that new what the hell they were doing.

I remained courteous while talking through the three levels of contact, but I refused to accept the wrong answer. I shipped priority mail and it arrived two days after I sent it out.

Not trying to haggle.

There are so many guns sitting here that haven't seen sunlight in a decade
it's nuts. Shoot the ones I shoot, the rest sit. There is a 264 bought in the 90s that's never needed shot. Despite owning everything to load for it.
And a 7mm T3 NIB about 18 years old. Bought 2nd hand.

But, that 06, it could be The Perfect Rifle.
😂😂😂😂

Dirtfarmer, Why do you listen to some twit at the P.O. when everyone haere KNOWS USPS ships long guns AND can't even ask you what's in the package ?

I just shipped one today, priority Mail, fully insured and tracked.

Ask to see the Postmaster and demand to be shown the regs.

Print this out and stick in in her/his face.

That’s a real beauty.

Someone (not me, as I’m not buying any more rifles, so help me Honey) is gonna get a deal.

I printed a copy of those USPS regs and will use it next time. My FFL bud is 20 min from my house, whereas the Post Office is pretty close to my office. So, if I can get the USPS to perform, it'll be a good thing.

Thanks for that link. I will use it.
