Having a debate with a friend on pick up tires. Is there a difference in tire life between 18” and 22” tires, same brand, same pickup, same roads, same driver etc.

I would think the larger ones would last longer, all things being equal, but what do I know?

Are you talking about the rim/wheel size or the tires outside diameter? Rim/wheel size would make no difference if the outside diameters are the same.

Larger rim size means more expensive rubber for the same tire OD. Look it up and compare the same brand tire in a 35x12.5r18 vs 35x12.5r22. It also leaves less rubber to absorb impact so it will ride more harshly. In an off-road situation, it won’t let the tread flex nearly as well for traction. There are zero good reasons to go above 18 (maybe 20) inch rims on a truck.

To answer your question though, I doubt the wheel diameter would make as much difference as the comparable side wall height of the same tire. The 50 might wear faster than a 75 because of more forgiving flex of the 75.
I like smooth so its 70 and higher for me and I’d never have a wheel over 17”

Pickin pepper outta fly schit, but the 22's might not flex as bad as the whatevers, & wear better.
Otherwise. aren't either for runnin in da hood?
Give me a brake with this inda hood tall wheels crap.
Don't real hunters, shooters, off roaders use a practical combo like last year or 10 years ago??? I can't be that far out of touch.

Tire life is all about compound of rubber and surfaces they've operated on. Throw in pressures and weather...A 22" has a larger circumference but all other factors matter too...

Are you talking about the rim/wheel size or the tires outside diameter? Rim/wheel size would make no difference if the outside diameters are the same. . if you go from a 33" tire to a 35" tire you gain 2.6% distance per revolution. will your wheel wells and fenders on the front handle the extra 2 inches on turns, does your truck have the tourk to handle that diameter increase in [bleep] ground. norm

I know many new trucks/SUV's are built with 20-22" wheels Larger diameter braking systems ? My guess To me they look like dog schidt I'm a 16"-17" tire wheel guy More tire sidewall than wheel.....sure 16-17's will last longer......flames begin Sure after market wheel selection may be limited per vehicle As here in pic 33" BFG AT KO2......285-70x17 on a 5x150 Toyota Bolt spacing

If the 22's last any longer, I doubt it's enough to offset the cost increase from the 18's.

Otherwise, off roaders here choose appropriate tires of the mud variety.

Doesn't matter the size, width, or price. In my lifetime (77 years) and a ton of miles and vehicles, 30-40,000 miles is good. Bias, in the old days, 25K was good. 40K so far on my Michelin on the Escape and might get one more winter. Ready for third set on the Odyssey and it is at 75K.
