Nice rig!!
I had the right twist... 80 grainer and 6.5 twist... Just how it goes, I suspect if I dealt with Lost River direct I may have unraveled the tale. As it was the JLK 90s were good enough and the lost rivers just too much at a dollar or more a bullet. Damn sharp though, would draw blood.
Periscope-- at 500 yards a 5 gallon bucket is nothing, try more like blowing up a ping pong ball or tennis ball sized target..... heck 5 gallon buckets can be in danger with my wife running an SKS at 500 yards....

Joecool544:
Your rig sounds and looks like lots of fun.
I was also skeptical about the "no recoil" statement until you told me that your rifle weighs 32 lbs.
Still.....a 300 grain bullet leaving the muzzle at 3400 fps and burning over 150 grns of powder....that sounds like baby .50 BMG power. Actually...7700 ft/lbs energy.
Do you actuall hunt with this or is it enough to have fun blowing up 5 gallon water pails at 500 yards? Actually I do hunt with it here is a thread to my mulie hunt this year. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...owflat/Number/1735552/page/2#Post1735552Today after making the all scope adjustments during hunting season I thought I would check it for zero. Its zeroed for 500 yards any ways no wind to speak of so I set it up and sent the big 300-grain pill on its way dead centered the inch and a half target at 500. But hay I had it built for everything!!!! I have yotes on the ranch and I really hate them with this rig if I see them they are dead if they stick around long enough for me to get a shot off. And it is lots of fun to shoot!!!

.338 Allen Mag shoots a 300 SMK at 3400 fps. no recoil at all I have been wanting a Allen mag of some kind for a while now. I have heard Kirby Allen builds some of the best rifles being made today. How hard is it to fire form your brass? Thats one thing that worries me about getting a Allen mag.

Not to hard to fire form the brass just add a little pistol powder lost of corn mill and some cotton your good to go Necking it down to get it ready to fire form is a bitch its a four-step process and you need to anneal the brass after the second step. Kirby is supposed it have his own brass made for this round sometime in the future with the correct head stamp and all that will be handy. I really like the 270 AM really easy to load for..

Here is my "light" LRH rig. I took my 1982 custom Rem 700 and sent it's very skinny (.542" at muzzle) shot out 30-06 barrel to Dan Lilja to copy the contour in 26" of stainless steel. I then had it chambered to 30-06 Ackley Imp by Ian Jensen, formerly of Barnes Bullets. I tried the the IOR 3-18 and loved the glass right up until it fell apart internally after about 50+ shots. Recoil is stout for a 180 gr Nosler BT/AB leaving at 3000 fps from a 7.5 lb rifle. I replace the IOR with a Leupold Mk4 4.5-14x50 w/ M1 dials and TMR reticle. It typically shoots 1/2 to 3/4 MOA. Here it is w/ the IOR. This is 818 yards. Here is it's first kill (as an Ackley)with the 180 AB, exit side.

My neighbor the fox has taken to shooting Long range, easier then stalking and chasing the bunnies around. Its clearly working for him as well.
