This $500 Mauser M12 308 "build" launching 150 gr Federal Blue Box at ~150 yards worked. IIRC it was an inch and a half rifle at 100 yards. Could be wrong. Ran out of time... You aren't kidding. My M12's (308 and 30-06) are the best rifles i've ever owned. just like a custom. 2 pound crisp triggers. awesome

I was in the same boat. Keep your eyes on the classifieds. Snatch things up as soon as you see them. Don't hem and haw for a day. It will be gone. I had a chance at a manners with m5 inlet for $350 and I missed it because I hesitated. Finding a quality composite short action rifle stock with an M5 bottom inletted at any reseller maybe difficult to find. There was a guy over on longrangehunting that seems like a Manners reseller or something. He has/had some manners with the m5 inlet for $725 which is a bit more than I wanted to spend. You mention not wanting to wait for a stock but unless you buy something like an in stock remage barrel, you are looking at a long wait time if you are going to have a gunsmith install. Probably longer than waiting for the stock.

She ain’t real tactical but she’s practical. This was my range rifle and critter popper for several years. Don’t get it out much anymore. I believe the barrel contour is a #6 or real close. It balances perfect and isn’t so heavy that it’s a pain. ADL bottom, again not tactical. For the easy button- Rem 700 LTR if you can find one. 👍 700 action Pac Nor - 10 twist cut to 20.5” McMillan HTG .308 Win When I first read #6 contour I thought that doesn't look like a #6. Then I remembered the Pac-Nor #6 is their heaviest sporter taper, where most other manufacturers have a #6 being the lightest of their straight taper barrels.
