Germans had it sabotaged, like Cortes burning his ships, no turning back for the German populace, like it or not. For those not "In the Know" a "pig" travels through pipelines for various purposes such as inspection or cleaning. Easiest way to cut an underwater pipeline if you have access to the pipeline.
