Some time ago, I picked up an older, stainless, M7 in 308 Win. The rifle came from the factory with no sights and black synthetic stock. It's an older 3-hole version, so I'll probably use a pic rail for the base to aid in eye relief and ring spacing.
I'll be sticking with a 1" scope tube on this one, but the only spare 1" scope I have is a Meopta 4-14x or something similar I bought off of Cameraland a year or so ago; the scope is too big.
It's obvious this is not a LR rig, so anything that doesn't cost a whole lot in the 2-7 or 3-9 range will work. What scope would you recommend?

When pressed with the same question for my sons Model 7, laminated stock, in 243, I did the Talley one-piece base with vertically split rings, scope was a Leupold 2.5x8x36 which I think is about perfect for that combo.

Yes, a 2.5-8 is a good choice. My model seven FS sports an older vari-x compact 3-9x33 mounted in Leupold dual dovetail rings and I find it to be about perfect.

Those DD mounts make for a clean look. I've only used them once, years ago on a Weatherby Mark V SBGM (Super Big Game Master) chambered in 300 Win Mag.
What base are you using? Assuming a Leupold.
Nice rifle!

I'd look at the Leupold XP-100 DD base and their DD Low rings. Probably find a 2-7x33 variant to put on top. If you want to go lighter, the 1pc DNZ mounts probably shave a few ounces. Or you could buy some Talley X-low alloy mounts and have a smith drill-tap that 2nd rear base hole. I did that with a Remington 660 and use those mounts for a very low mounting setup.
Now with even more aplomb

Depending on the scope, the DNZ 1 piece work well. The downside of them is ring spacing. On a longer tubed scope, I prefer wider ring spacing.....if it's a short tubed scope I really like the DNZ's.

Nice rifle! Just as JPro mentioned, it's a leupold base for an xp-100 (same as model seven). I usually use Talley's but being a 3 hole receiver I thought this was the best option and I liked the look.

Here's the Talley allow X-lows with a 2-7x33. Just barely clears the bolt handle.

It's an older 3-hole version, so I'll probably use a pic rail for the base to aid in eye relief and ring spacing. You can have another hole drilled on the rear of the receiver. This will open up several more options. The last one I had, I used std weaver 2 pc bases with good rings with a Leupold 2-7. It worked fine.

All my centerfire hunting rifles wear Leupold straight 6 power scopes. Simple and effective.

Hey bud I have a set of nib talleys for a mode 7 and an extra 2.5-8x36 matte/duplex scope if you decide to go this way!! It’s what I had on one of my model 7s. Worked great. So does the leupold 6x36…might have one of those as well tucked away.

There is a Swarovski AV 3-9X36 in the Classifieds that would work great on that rifle.
