I use USAA for everything. And everytime someone has called to talk about rates, the conversation usually goes something like "I can lower your insurance payment while still giving you the same coverage. Who do you have insurance through currently?" USAA. "Oh. We can't touch their rates, have a good day." Click.

USAA has been fantastic for me.

I had the same experience up until about 8 years ago. They aren't the same anymore.

Was with USAA 20 years. Car insurance kept going up. I checked with State Farm and they beat them on 2 vehicles and 2 homes. Can't remember numbers but it was enough to make it worth while. I also had a retirement account with USAA. Without warning it transferred to some other company to manage. Since they started advertising so much they are just another insurance company. I called and talked to them, they couldn't explain why they were higher on everything even after 20 years.

Same, same, same. USAA kept raising rates for my GF condo and car. I switched her to State Farm and saved her $850 a year.

If you don't shop insurance every few years, you're going to be paying too much.

Amica and Farmers are worth looking at, Hagertys for classic collectibles.

RUN away from State Farm, they don't pay to fix cars properly.................

Go to an independent insurance agent that represents many different insurance companies. Determine the level of insurance you want and let them find a policy that fits and is best value. Using the same insurance company year after year, is a fools errand, unless you are the insurance company.

None cheaper that I’ve been able to find. Beat everyone else, big time.

Haven’t filed any claims yet so I don’t know anything more than good pricing. Might switch homeowners policy to them eventually.

What Dale06 said.

I have been in the business for 30+ years now, the first 25 as a 'captive' (only able to offer one company, like Allstate, Farmers, State Farm), and the last 8 years as a Broker.

As a Broker, I work with 14 different companies, so I can offer my clients alternatives that a captive agent cannot.

Cheaper insurance often comes with a downside like ^^^ This ^^^.

Any insurance company is only as good as how well it covers customer's losses to customer's satisfaction.

I stayed with Cornerstone, for less than $600 bucks a year for full coverage on a new Challenger. I had a claim that they handled well last year and was expecting a higher rate on this car.

I have a friend that works as an adjuster on home claims, not for Erie.
He uses Erie for all his insurance.

He says, and my Dad's experience confirms,
"Erie is reasonable, and fantastic about claims. Quick with every process,
liberal with payments. BUT, if you cost them too much money, they will
not renew your policy."

Dad used them for 40+ years, a couple small stupid accidents, couple deer hit. Then he lost control of a new truck in the cinders, slid off the road hitting a utility box, a pole and a pine tree. Over $10k to fix the truck no idea
what the box and pole cost.
State Police fined him for "Leaving the Highway".

State law allows an insurance company to drop you if you have to
incidents in two years.
Erie said he had two. Accident, and the fine. (For the accident)
Sent him a notice they wouldn't renew his policy a couple months before
it expired. Decent, that. It allowed him to shop as insured.

I still use them.

I had a fender-bender about a year ago, went to 5 body shops in town to find one that wasn't 3 weeks out with backed-up business. I asked each of them what they thought about my insurance (Allstate), and what the best one was.

Every one of them said Allstate was the worst, and USAA was the best.

Same, tough to beat what they offer when you have a rural property.
