Hey all..just finished weighing 500 new Starline cases received 2 days ago....172 grains to 175 grains... acceptable spread or not..?? Should i just load them without any regard to weight ..of course following prudent reloading from starting loads and working up ...??? Three grain variation does not seem a big deal......what say ye learned gentlemen...??? Thanks for your help...!!!

I wouldn't sweat it for my purposes.

How uniform are the neck walls?

I wouldn't either. Just for schidts and giggles, I'd re-weigh them after once firing, trimming and chamfering. I'll bet numbers would go down a bit on standard deviation between weights. Not that I'd do that myself, but it sounds like the op likes weighing stuff.

I did the weighing thing years ago. Target shooters may fine it useful but I never saw a benefit to my shooting.

I would be thrilled with 500 cases that varied only +/- 1.5 grains, as your Starline do. Go forth and shoot 'em!

I’ve never bothered with that, get good groups with mixed brands of brass, but 300 yards is a max shot where I hunt.

I separated out some RP 257 Roberts cases last year. Case wt used. 5 @ 168gr, 5 @ 171gr, 5 @ 174gr. Loaded them all with a middle of the road 46gr of Hybrid 100V and a 100gr Hot-Cor, Fed 210M. Mean for the 168 cases was 2937fps, for the 171 cases 2946, and for the 174 cases 2970. I don't worry about it much anymore.

I guess if I was loading on the ragged edge I'd keep an eye on it.

It's akin to propellant charge weight variations. Hint.

No thanks. Hint....................

I weighed cases years ago but for my shooting and hunting needs it turned out to be an exercise in futility.
