One of my co-workers has been extolling the virtues of his Win 444 lever gun. I'd been playing with a Marlin 1895 GG at Gander Mt. He keeps jabbering. I recall the 44 mag trapper Puma I foolishly traded off several years ago.

I stop in here looking for all the bad recoil/accuracy complaints and I end up buying a 45/70 GG on gunbroker. Hopefully, it will be here in time for rifle season. This is the first rifle I've actually been excited about (other than the "hey, I got me a new gun" excitement) since I traded off the 44.

Thanks to you guys I'm already looking at a WWG lever and XS sights. I save $20 and this place helps me spend $200.

You're gonna like it. I bought mine for a "special use" rifle, but the more I shoot it the more I'm leaning toward general use.

It is addictive.I gave up reloading for my other rifles to reload only for my Guide Gun and .454 Casull.Amazing what the Guide Gun will do within it's limits.

The 45-70 Guide Gun renewed my lust for guns and hunting.

I've got the 1895 Cowboy but I still think I should have a Guide Gun in Stainless.

Can you ever have enough 45-70's?

In the last 5 years my lever gun collection has grown even though I have tried to discourage it.
Win Timber Scout 444
Win Timber 450 Marlin
Win XTR Big Bore 375
Win 9417
these above were added to
Marlin 336 30-30
Marlin 336 35
Marlin 39A 22
Ithaca 49 22
Ithaca 49R 22
Marlin 1895 45/70
Henry 22
I might even be missing a few.
Wishing I hadn't traded off the BLR

Almost forgot the H&R trapdoor 45/70

It should be arriving shortly. I'm getting all antsy waiting. I think I've read everything written about the guide gun, marlin 45/70's, and 45/70's in general.

I'm as bad as one of the grandkids at Christmas. I've already bought a butt cuff (even though I hate the elastic ones) and a box of Leverevolution ammo (which was $5 a box cheaper than Win 300gr JHP). I'm thinking about going back and buying more ammo. The XS sights have arrived. I'm gonna be hunting with this puppy in four weeks. laugh laugh

OH, my it got here today. I'm a gonna be in trouble. I won't be able to shoot it before Saturday afternoon at the earliest. I'll have the action worn out by then.

I guess I'm officially ready for the deer and any hogs that may be infesting the area. laugh

.

Congratulations, grimel;

I am in the same fix! Just aquired a Marlin 1895SS. Early '90s vintage showing minor wear on the wood. Got to find some new cases and bullets now to get started reloading. Let us know how your shoots.

Oh, and I'm torqued. Finally calmed down enough to make sense. It seems somehow my FFL guy received some background paperwork fee/bill/whatever from the government on MONDAY and since he hadn't paid it by FRIDAY he is now "behind" and can't get anyone who can fix the problem before Monday.

The baboons sent LAST month's bill to the wrong address. Only took 2 hours to fix the problem. shocked I finally got it home.

Now, to get the XS sights on it and get ready to blast some. I managed to find the only reasonable priced items at Saturday's gun show - reloading dies (I nabbed a 45/70 set) and scope rings (nabbed a set for my Savage 22 bolt).

Laddy, you have climbed onto the Tigers back!! The 45/70 is one of the most fun and useful pieces of field artillery you will ever lay yer mitts on!! It is a MAJOR exercise of mind to even take another rifle out of the cave once you get bit by the cannons!! GRINNING

Being a lefty, I was bit hard by the hand cannons early. Big flat nosed lead bullet at 1300-2000fps makes for DRT and a hole you can eat up to the edge. No more bloodshot meat.

Can you tell I'm ready for opening day? Put the XS sights on last night.
