If I die in the woods, anything that can get a piece of me is welcome to it, circle of life and all, composting is good.
Kent I’m calling dibs on your back straps. Lol 🦫 HAHAHAHA, one of the funniest things I have heard here! You must be a blast to hang with!

At 74 I still hunt by myself usually. I'm choosy about whom I hunt with, always have been. I have slowed down a little in the past ten years. I would be very happy to be, physically, were I was ten years ago, but I'm not. I won't quit, however.

The talk of hunting alone reminds me of a conversation I witnessed between an old family friend in his 90's and his kids who were retired in their 60's about dad taking his sailboat out by himself. The "kids" were telling him how unsafe it was with each throwing out a reason or two that he not sail alone. You could tell the old boy was building up steam until he raised his hand and said something to the effect he was in his mid nineties and he'd rather die sailing solo than sharding the bed in some nursing home.
I feel pretty much the same about hunting alone again now that I'm 68 and have spent most of the last decade rehabbing from knee injuries. I can now finally walk distances again. I know what it is like to lose physical abilities and am thankful every day that I'm back to some reasonable version of health.

I went to visit my father in one, he had a tube of Lubricant on his dresser, I asked him why he had lubricant???? Thought he was going to have a catheter placed in his wiener! He told me with a grin "I have three girlfriends here; they all need it because they are old" lol

I deer hunt alone often, probably too often. I don't worry about dragging yet but I had trouble getting a pretty big buck into the back of my lifted truck a few years ago so I made a plywood ramp that I keep in the bed.
My wife gave me a cranking game hoist/lift that slides into my ball hitch for Xmas. Its' still in the box but I might throw it in my truck just to keep the wife happy. The scrap plywood ramp makes it pretty easy to get anything I am shooting into the bed.

I will be 71 next month and still spend a lot of time alone on the ranch in a truck, in the Gator, on horseback or walking. I don't mind if someone wants to come along but they are usually ready to go home after three or four hours and I still have things to do. Most don't want to come along a second time. My wife says to call if you won't be home before dark and we have pretty good cell phone service. Hunting is no different. I don't mind hunting alone but my best hunting memories are time spent with friends and family visiting and eating around the campfire. Bringing home game is the secondary reason for hunting. Guess i'm strange that way.

Hunting alone doesn't bother me at all. Hope to be able to continue doing so for many years to come.

I don't mean the actual hunting. I mean being down there with no one knowing where I'm at. No one there if I start having trouble breathing or if my heart finally acts up. COPD and congestive heart. Normally minor but I do sometimes feel it.

When I hunt alone I prefer to be by myself

The thing is I won't do this alone anymore. Getting older (63), some health issues, I don't see it as safe. So you die in the woods doing what you love, what could be so bad about that? I don't romanticize that. Frankly I'm a lot more careful since I had that brush with death two years ago. That's also when they first detected some congestive heart issues. My dad had that going back into his 60's.

It might be smart for you to have a SPOT or first alert type button so if you start having a COPD episode you can summon help.
I always leave my wife with a location of where I expect to be hunting or an area on the ocean I expect to be fishing. I figure that way it’ll take them less time finding my corpse. 😁

When I read the post title I thought of Bob Marshall area in MT, 1 hour away from me. You don't hunt alone in the Bob anymore *unless you're a dumbass* due to the influx of Griz.

I hunt alone often. I'll take off for several days at a time to call Califirnia and Nevada day and night and I have a few years on the OP. I figure if something happens at least I was having fun. My wife sqawks about it a little now that I'm old. Clears the head. I don't hunt with the pack...
