did a tour of a new natural gas electricity powerplant recently. The newest best of the best. Ask the guy if there is any shielding from EMP attacks. they said none.

ROFL.... not enough fat in the budget for that, but let's be real, they don't want that kind of protection for society... In fact, most of the systems are already thoroughly bonded and grounded, usually adding a superstructure to provide Faraday type protection would be easy enough even a rod buster could figure it out.

It would take a Faraday Shield over the whole plant to fully protect it from EMP. And that would be damn near impossible $$ wise, to protect a whole power plant if youre including the switchyards, main substations, external auxiliary systems like cooling water wells, cooling tower controls, systems that feed the nat gas to the plant, SCADA systems that cover the systems listed, and the list goes on.
Even if you could protect it, that may not be enough because of the transmission lines and substations miles from a plant that provide the distribution of power, so if the grid system goes down power from that plant is useless anyway.

We have two 1940’s Westinghouse diesel fired units and a 1951 Allis Chalmers gas/diesel dual fuel unit in the old wing of the plant. They still have manually operated controls and with some effort could probably be up and running again in the event of a serious catastrophe.

Early '90's I toured a coal fired plant here in Ky. 2 steam turbines. 1 small hydro at the dam in the holler, used only for emergencies.
Then they showed us the shiny new under construction fuel fired gen.
Afterward I often wondered about it's use when diesel & fuel oil prices hit the roof. Knowing that the coal was still burning strong. LMFAO when Tesla announced a new charging station to be installed in the area, knowing the spark was from ........ Coal.
This electric car BS has been a farce from the get go.

BIL runs a NG gas turbine power plant. It’s still 4x more expensive than coal is for base load. They make all their money in the summertime as a peaking plant. No EMP shielding of any kind there.
