Just picked up a new to me Ruger GP100 in 44 Special and some of Mackay_Sagebrush's ammo. Time to go burn some powder! The Uncle Mike's holster will have to do until my Milt Sparks arrives. Will also be another woods walk gun in primitive NE Wisconsin! Lol!

Viking.
The .44 Special 240 SWCs are 900 FPS.
Yep, still have my KLR. Just put new tires and a new taller wind screen on it this year. Was planning on riding it more this summer, but as always life kept getting in the way.

I've been shooting .44 Special since the mid 1970's when I built one on a police retired S & W Heavy Duty. I've had several over the years some built on S&W M/28's and a couple on M/27's including one that i had Hamilton Bowen custom build for me with every option he offered. My go to load for nearly all that time has been 7.5gr. of Unique and a 200gr. RNFP cast bullet. A load that's easy on the gun and the shooter, when I want a little more oomph I increase the charge to 9.0gr.

Dean, I’ve had on of those ever since they were introduced. I really like mine and shoot it often. It is also my woods carry gun. I shoot a self cast 150 gr. SWC Keith over 6.5 gr. of Unique for about 850 fps.

Of all my 44s the GP100 in .44 Special is one of my hands down favorites. I like 250-260gr. around 850-900fps.

There's not a whole lot that this combination of revolver and load won't be able to tackle in the lower 48.......
Great revolver and cartridge!

Beautiful 44, I have one also, great shooting gun, lots of history. Here is mine, built by Colt in 1962, little to large for an EDC.

Dirty Harry Callahan thought so, too. Was watching Magnum Force last night and he explained why he preferred .44 special in his Model 29.

Of all my 44s the GP100 in .44 Special is one of my hands down favorites. I like 250-260gr. around 850-900fps. NICE! I thought about loading/offering up some lighter 174 grain truncated cone flat points that would be good bunny smashers or target loads. Just don't know if they would be popular or not. I know they would be a blast for Jacks after big game season is over though!
