I just replaced an existing scope with a new Burris Droptine. It appears, after bore sighting, that the Burris does not have enough vertical adjustment for my mounts, and I'm going to be shooting just a bit low. Of course, I'll try actual live fire first, but if I'm truly shooting low, what are my options? Shimming the rear rings? If so, I suspect a thin piece of aluminum, such as from a soda can, may do it, but is that the best way to rectify the problem?

Slooooowwwww the fhuqk down, take a breath and cite mechanical particulars. Hint.

What receiver? What base? What scope prior? What rings? How come you haven't VERIFIED that base/rings are Skookum, before placing a scope in their saddle? A malady of your description,is easily seen miles away, with the scope running upwards and away from the spout. Hint.

How much windage was used from mechanical center,to get your "zero"? Hint.

Breathe. The Cure is EASY. Hint.

Fhuqking LAUGHING!..............

This^^^ You should never run out of adjustment at 100 yards. If so, something is really fugged up. Definitely wrong mounts.

Best way to solve the problem? Follow Stick's advice, check to see if you have the right bases and if so, if they are mounted correctly. One step at a time and you'll figure it out. Might want to try a different known scope.

Some specifics as to the items in question:

The rifle is a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, in 22-250, so recoil should not be an issue.

The bases and rings are both Leopold, The front ring is an extension ring, needed for my prior scope due to the short span between the bases, given the very short action of a 22-250.

The prior scope was a Bushnell Trophy, and the new one is a Burris Droptine (admittedly not top-shelf scopes, but adequate for my purposes here.)

The prior scope had some, though I do not recall how much, remaining vertical adjustment left. The rifle was sighted in very well with the prior scope, but I needed more magnification. Other than removing the tops of the rings to switch scopes, I did not loosen the rings or the bases when removing the old scope.

When I placed the new scope in the rings and bore sighted it, the reticles were high above the bore, but were very close horizontally, within a few inches.

Ideas?

Sounds like a 4.5-14x,wearing 40 MOA of total erector travel. Knowing that going in,makes it an easy pass. It pays to read Specs. Hint.

Likely STD rings to boot, none of the scenario doing you ANY favors. I'd go Reupold DD Reversible Front bases and Burris Signature Rings. The melding will keep schit out of a bind and correct concentricity issues, wether it the base hole's alignment, bridge height discrepencies or receiver/barrel runout. Hint.

What's the platform's application? Said scope isn't going to do you ANY favors, even if mounted PERFECTLY. Hint..............
