I bought a Wilson Combat 20# spring for my 1911, and discovered that they have a smaller diameter spring and guide rod. Will a rod from Wilson or somebody else fit my spring? Thanks

It will be cheaper and easier to just get another spring. Chrome silicone springs are currently the best for not wearing out.

Why is a guide rod needed in the first place?

Just call Wilson Combat Monday morning and tell them what handgun you have and what you need.
They will suggest the best solution and have it to you in a few days.

I am betting he ordered a flat wire spring without reading the FAQ’s. I used more than a few Wilson springs and never had a problem with fit.

From Wilson.

FAQ
1) Is the flat wire spring compatible with a full length guide rod?
Yes-Only with the full length flat wire guide rod (#25GRFW). The inner diameter of the flat wire spring is smaller than a conventional round wire spring requiring a flat wire specific guide rod.

I never had any freakin idea that Wilson or anybody else made guide rods that need to be about .250 or less.

Yes, you are correct. I didn't know that the flat wire springs had a smaller outside diameter than standard round wire springs. I' gonna order a #25GRFW rod and a plug. Thanks
