I remember about 30 years ago there was a guy speaking in Pierre, SD about calling in cayotes. He said that if it was windy, wait untill it not a windy day. The entire room started laughing.

You'd think that someone would come up with a way to utilize the energy of that wind.

Great place to grow up sailing Hobie Cats! Short sailing season, but often great winds. No salt water to contend with either.

Strong winds aren't unusual. Having them like this for a week is a little uncommon.

Neighbors had a fire yesterday in a Milo field north of town. That was a birch to put out. Swirling wind around the trucks was spreading it as fast as we were putting it out. We had units from all over coming to help. Two big discs ended up knocking it down the quickest so we could get it out. Then right after I crawl into bed we get another call of two cars on the interstate that had wrecked, probably due to the wind.

It sucks, but it keeps the riff raff out. Be sure to share your story far and wide for years.

I have a friend that lives near Rapid City. He says the residents of South Dakota have a saying about the wind. "If it ever stops blowing, half of the buildings in S.D. would fall down"

Several years ago, I drove I-90 from central S.D. to Rapid, with about 40 to 60 mph winds from the south. Stopped for gas in Rapid and noticed the vinyl spare tire cover was missing from my cargo trailer. Somebody might have found it in North Dakota. Checked the oil in the pick up, and the under the hood was all kinds of grass.

Harvesting in this lovely wind the last few days. Empty semi heading north and all I can muster is 60mph out of the ol' detriot....today is just a light 25mph breeze.

It gets old....but I really believe the weather keeps people away....and I'm cool with that.

One time here in so. Idaho, we were duck hunting along a canyon and the wind was blowing just like that. We spotted a duck coming toward us and realized it had lost control. It was tumbling in the air. We watched it for several hundred yards as it approached and until it finally went over us and disappeared, still tumbling. It didn't lose any altitude that we could see. That would have been one dizzy duck after a few miles of that.

I'm in eastern wyoming hunting. The last few days with that wind was tough.
