So this 99 .250 is the first rifle I’ve owned that has not come equipped for a sling, I know better than to alter this old rifle. What options are out there for a carry system for an 1899 without sling studs? I’ll probably take the sling off and hunt in hand, but for the long walk in and out, it would be better to have free hands.

Pictures would be a good help..

Thank you

Something like this will probably work. I have one like it I bought from Cabela's years ago, but more of a soft suede leather.

Don't leave these on the rifles. Almost all will discolor the buttstock.

Google for black powder rifle sling and you'll probably find more.

I've got one of those. It works good if you get the front band tight around the forearm, otherwise the front band slides up the barrel.

I haven't hunted with it on this rifle but it worked good when I hunted with the 99K and this sling. The scnable forearm helps hold the front in place.
