wabigoon;
Good evening my friend, I hope the day's been a good one for you all and you're all well.
We tented all over the 4 western provinces and many of the northern states. Many times up here and in Yellowstone and Glacier MT we were in bear country too, but somehow we survived.
Since we were foreigners, we weren't allowed to carry noise makers stateside, but up on our side of the medicine line there's usually something in the tent "just in case"....
That all started way back before I was married and buddy and I were hunting up on the south slopes of Big White. We'd hit a logging cut block in the dark, set the tent up by the headlights of my '80 Toyota 4x4 and cooked supper on the tailgate.
We were dead tired and both of us fell to sleep immediately.
Sometime in the night, I was awakened by something sniffing the tent right by my head.....
Slowly and quietly, I slid one hand onto the noisemaker and the other onto a big 3 cell Maglight like we all had back then.
The sniffing slowly circled the tent and as it did, it occurred to me that in our half tired state of setting up the tent and then the sleeping bags, I was not entirely sure where the truck was in relation to my head...
It wouldn't really do to plug the truck now would it?
The other thought that kept on going through my head was that my blissfully snoring hunting partner was going to have a heart attack when I torched one off inside the tent.
Eventually the sniffer left and I fell asleep slightly before morning, only somewhat worse for the wear.
We had a few other "incidents" with both ursine and human creatures of the night over the years tenting, but as I'm still here to tell of them, apparently we survived.
Oh, I think it was last spring we tented last too by the way.
All the best to you all wabigoon.
Dwayne

Typical Canuck tenting noisemakers.
