CZ's are hard to beat for reasonable priced, well made rimfires.

I have had a nice experience with a savage mark ii g. Wood stock. Cheap enough to not worry about getting beat up, and will put 5 shots in 3/4 inch group at 50 yards with Aguila HV. Accu trigger is nice, have that turned all the way down.

I have a Ruger American, Kimber and I just got a BMR. I haven’t shot the BMR Carbon yet but I like the feel of it.

Please post a range report on the BMR and how it compares to your other rimfires. Thanks

I know this is abit old but if you want a squirrel rifle good but cheap you need to go back before guns were plastic toys ,back to when Remington,Marlin and Winchester made rifles out of wood and steel for hunters were used to and demanded quality at reasonable prices, and squirrel hunting was food hunting to add meat to the larder.try finding a Remington 510,511,512,a 511 has 6 rds tucked into a steel magazine flush with the stock ,the magazine clicks in smoothly a locks securely, and removes aas easy, rifle is accurate and operates flawlessly, smoothly and can be found for $150 -$200 even today.

One of these, Kimber K22 Classic.
With luck maybe find one for a grand. Great rifle, very accurate, flush magazine, wood stock, all Anyone could ask for in a bolt action .22

FWIW, I've used my Christensen Ranger almost exclusively for the last couple of years.

Suppressed and shooting RWS SSHPs, it's the most ideal squirrel rifle I've ever owned.

It doesn't have the class or charm of blued steel and beautiful wood...but if you're looking for form and function, I think it's perfect...

YMMV

While I don't have a lot of different bolt action 22's, I do have a few.

And of them, I own multiple Savage Mk2's. Actually, one is an older (pre-savage) lakefield, but is the same overall design as the mk2, with a few small differences. But, while sitting behind them shooting, are largely irrelevant.

Anyway, I've had the old Lakefield for a very long time and since it's always been a good gun, I decided a few years ago that I was going to turn it into an integrally suppressed gun and designed and made it and did it. It turned out really great and mostly flies under the radar because it doesn't scream "suppressed gun". Looks mostly like a nice bull barrel gun.

The savage guns are very accurate out of the box. There are little things you can do to improve that a little, but for the most part, is chasing diminishing returns. I find 1/2" POI at 50 yards to be acceptable for squirrel hunting and such.

If your goal is to kill sqoils and drive tacks at the range, there isn't a better option than a CZ 452 American, IMHO. You can spend a lot more money, but I don't think you can get an equivalently better rifle.

Yeah, at value for dollar spent and considering only rifles currently being produced I'd put the CZ 457 at the top of the list followed very closely by the Tikka T1x; individual aesthetic preferences might switch those positions. The CZ has a solid feel to it and a classy look, the Tikka is stainless which does have it's advantages as a hunting rifle. Both will be equally accurate - ammo and shooter ability would be the deciding factors there.

At their price points you can afford good glass and stay under that $1000 mark.

The CZ does need particular rings for its 11mm dovetail or you can get a rail to go over that and use any rings you want. The d&t Tikka has a few more options available without going to a rail. Don't know what weight you'd put on those factors but just listing them.

Aftermarket support for both is great, if you want to customize them lots of folks make holes to put money in, uh, make great things to dress up the rifles. wink If the stock triggers aren't light enough for you, a readily available $10 spring and 5 minutes will bring those pulls down into the 1 pound area. Neither spring swap is complicated at all.

For a less expensive (maybe) rifle that will be just as/almost as accurate as both of those a Savage Mark II is a strong contender. Action smoothness isn't anything to write home about but it gets better with use, functioning is reliable and they definitely, flat out shoot. They can be had in blued or stainless and come in a variety of stock styles from basic tupperware to Salvador Dali. Trigger ain't bad, either.

Just my totally left brained opinion...

Friend of a friend has a shop with one on the shelf, fighting the urge to go buy it. Not sure what I'd gain above my CZ 452, other than a neat little .22 to have.

I don't have a K22, but I have several Kimber of Oregon and I have heard that the K22s are just as well made if not a bit better. The Kimbers have excellent triggers, are very accurate, and the stock design is excellent for a sporter rifle for field work. If you have access to one I would snatch it up. They are getting harder and harder to find and the prices are showing the scarcity by going up quickly....

A Ruger 77/22 is a junior 77 centerfire, accurate, has a flush magazine and it handles great.
