This was the last multi day trip I took with my buddy before he got cancer and was called home. Bill was the greatest fishing partner I’ve ever had. He and I were on the exact same wavelength all the time. I miss him more than I ever thought I would…

That trip we were based out of Seiku but mostly fished Neah Bay and the ocean. The water conditions were really strange. There was an algae bloom that made the color of the water an ugly brownish green and it was everywhere. Fishing was not nearly as good in those conditions and while we caught a lot of Coho they were skinny, snakelike and obviously malnourished for that time of the year. I told Bill that we should try to find clean water so we steamed west for 5 miles or so. Just like someone drew an invisible line on the water, one side was nasty brown and the other side the usual clear greenish blue. On one side of the line we caught decent sized fish while on the other side of the line the fish were skinny and underfed.

After a week up at Seiku I went up to my place in Alaska for a few days to work on the property. I didn’t plan on fishing but one of the guys that I know offered us the use of his skiff. My buddy and I cobbled together the basic gear…mooching leader, crescent weight and herring. We caught BEAUTIFUL big Coho ….Coho that looked like Coho not the things we were catching a week before. In a couple of hours we’d caught enough silvers to satisfy our bloodlust and as a bonus I caught a decent king about 20# too. I realized then that there’s little point in me spending much time anymore down here chasing fewer and smaller fish while fighting bigger and bigger crowds, I need to be up north.

Sometimes I wish Rick had kept the like button. I read your post and enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoy most of your posts.

Ya cool country, fil has a place up there, my uncle Dick has had family up there for years. Amazing country for sure!

Still wild country back up there. If I was looking for something in Washington and I could go anywhere that area would be at the top of the list.

Are you guys dealing with wolves up there?….I’d imagine you have been for quite sometime now.

It worked on me my friend.

The peer pressure became unbearable, I couldn’t sleep (more than 12 hours straight), I couldn’t eat (more than 3 meals a day plus snacks) and I couldn’t focus (that part is true).

The way you described it in one of your posts made sense somehow and I gave it a try. You should be an online tutor for retards…I can vouch for your effectiveness. 😁

New addition to the family. Brodie joined the tribe mid August and started coming out to retriever training right away. At 11 weeks he is with my 6 year old Toller Finn under the Truck. I have modified my hunting a bit this fall to make sure he can come along on all trips. Sharptails with a buddy in September, then onto ducks over water where he got a few toss back retrieves and now geese where he gets to run through the decoys set ups and smell the birds when we start to pick up. Physical and mental growth change from 11 to 18 weeks is amazing.

For those wondering there are 94 white geese that he got to sniff. Our limit is 50 per day per person with no possession limit.

Judman;
Good evening to you once more, I trust all is still well with you.

Regarding the big coyotes, if they happened to be coming across the medicine line unlawful like, they'd be subject to a very liberal season up here, as in no bag limit and the season only closed a bit in summer. Now of course if they were Canuck wolves, they'd still be subject to a very liberal season with an annual limit of 3 and the season again closed for a bit in summer. Unless they happened to be eyeballing grazing stock in which case they're subject to the livestock protection rules.

Anyways, that's the treatment they'd be subjected to a wee bit to the north is all.

This was from a couple springs ago, we were cutting firewood and spotted a bear that our eldest put the stalk on and then decided it wasn't the size or fur condition she wanted. Was on Victoria Day weekend. Sorry about the Photobucket water marks on them, but it's sort of cool seeing us put the moves on a bear - which is to the right of the stump in the center of the photo.

Closer....

[Linked Image from i180.photobucket.com]

And closer still - bear now behind stump.

[Linked Image from i180.photobucket.com]

She's closing in solo now with the bear to the right of the stump again.

[Linked Image from i180.photobucket.com]

The bear was screened by the brush and as she closed the bolt thinking about whether or not to dust it, it saw her and exited stage right as it were...

[Linked Image from i180.photobucket.com]

Anyways, one can see that with the right wind and being quiet enough, camo can be optional.

Please also note the requisite 24Hour Campfire blue apparel being worn! laugh

The rifles are both Swedes and mine has blue tape on the muzzle for good measure, can't be too careful about this sort of thing.

All the best and have a good evening.

Dwayne

Great pictures Dwayne.
Those are the kind of pics that rarely get taken and rarely even thought of when in the moment.
