Thank you guys for your service. I am most appreciative of your sacrifices. With all that being said......I like my meatloaf smoked, and once I tried it I can't eat it any other way.

Your brothers owned ARSIC South in 2008 and I was a 1SG attached to 327 in 2014-15. Hosted Rockason in Somalia for a little while in 19-20. Never been to Clarksvagus but do have the right shoulder patch.

And thank God they did because it obviously made enough of an impression on you that decades and wars later you were imparting the same lessons learned and BTDT mistakes on your young soldiers. I know that is how it’s supposed to work but it’s always nice reading about it coming full circle in real life. I’m sure there’s gotta be a big sense of pride in knowing that the young warrior at Ft. Carson in 1985 or the β€œkid” that possessed something special that was noticed and β€œnurtured” by SSG Dunn grew into that seasoned and salty warrior that his troops could look to, count on and TRUST.

That’s what is (or was) unique to our military and one of the things that helped make us the best hands down. Most militaries don’t empower the lowliest enlisted man with decision making abilities, all decisions are made at higher levels. Our military not only trains our warriors in how to fight but more importantly they are taught how to THINK. Because our warriors are allowed and even encouraged to think for themselves it is vitally important that the decisions they make and actions they take are informed decisions. Unless one has been in similar situations, and that’s unlikely in war, the most informed decisions would be those of experience. That’s why for our military the experience and wisdom imparted on the younger generation of warriors by the combat and life experience of the older, saltier warriors. I doubt that other than personal combat experience anything can come close to equaling the importance of having guys that have BTDT.

Thanks to everyone that served! Those pictures are always one of my favorite genres

Yep...
Seen it alot also.
Some cats got all that good on paper look to some on boards.
Some on boards look for line time.
Then they all approve each others reccomendations.

Cats do a leadership position for 12 14 months

Get the EER.
Go else where 3 4 5 yrs.
Get another leadership position.

Been in positions where I had pfc,s that could run a sqd better than some E6,s coming into a unit for a EER only.

Worst ones as a whole were dudes that had been range cadre in the 29th at Benning for 4 5 6 fuuuking years and came thru e5 and E6 their.
Looking for sqd ldr check the block time to make e7.

I ran into alot of guys that I came thru the ranks with or served with as Psg,s LT,s Co,s
Be 1sg,s Csm,s LTC,s Full birds.
Be like blast from the past schit .
They all knew what was hanging over me vis a vis that fiche entry.
Tried the appeals process on it around 97 98.
No go.
What ever.

Wife was always amazed 1st couple years at events and formal schit. High ranking Nco,s and O,s coming up to me talking old units and catching up on schit.
She grew used to that.
Got the you know everyone for gawds sakes.

She enjoyed meeting guys old ladies and hearing stuff about me and whoever when they was a peer, PSG, Lt, or old CO of mine.

It was a good life.
I wouldn't change a thing honestly looking back on it all.
Being around here I run into cats alot.
Always good to talk and catch up.
