Pardon my ignorance on this topic (and many others), but wouldn't he have learned this in whatever sniper training he attended?

A properly trained SWAT sniper should not have to ask anyone.

No i called him a minute ago and he said that the only thing they did is show him how to shoot and where to shoot aand gave him tips on camoflauge, stealth and gave him a 308.But he asked the department if he could use something else then the 308 and they said only if it get the job done.

338 Edge. It does every thing the Laupa can do and is cheaper to shoot. Of course the 7mm RUM is a bad azz cartridge in it's own right.

just suggest he do like most (not all mind you) police departments do - they use 308's. if he wanted more power he could go with the 300 win mag (like some police departments do).

If your buddy wants to bust through glass and still hit the target a great caliber is 155mm.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

At the risk of...

Well, if your police buddy is asking you these questions and telling you the other things you've posted in this thread, he's a major liability for his department, but appears the department is a major liability to the community as well. So it's a good fit all the way around! crazy confused

Well.....I have a few good friends who are officers. This is in a small town not to far from me. It is a small town, but the largest in the county. They have a "swat" team. They do occasional entry training, etc....but it isn't like an urban swat team. They get little time set aside for training. They are just officers that get called on when they have to do an entry, etc. The dedicated "snipers" get little training and most shooting time is just time they pull out of their personal time to shoot.

Big difference between "swat" in this case and the case of a couple of friends I have in a metro area. Very big difference.

I would suggest that shooting through glass, etc during a SWAT callout is to be strenuously avoided if at all possible, and done only as an absolute last resort.

Your friend is best advised to stick with his .308. He starts using his own guns/calibers he is also gonna start assuming (even) more liability.

Exquisitely turdlike in all of his many manifestations!!
