Not a huge test as the elk was a big bull calf but the shot was 15-20 paces. Full frontal chest shot. The hide stopped it in the back ham. Impact velocity had to be pretty close to muzzle velocity which is 3035 from my .300 Win Mag. The load of 76 gr of IMR 7828SSC shoots great as well. It’s boring though as this is the very first and only load I’ve tried in my vintage BDL.

I’m very impressed.

Looks like it shoots great in your rifle. My 300wby's love that bullet. I'll buy more when I can find them. Thanks for the report. Well done. Looks like elk in the freezer..

It's impressive that it still created petals that large at such close range. I would be really interested to see someone run tests (X-ray, metal detector, etc.?) to see where the petals that break off actually end up in the animal. Common sense would say they get left behind in the wound channel but bullets do weird things...

I run an IMR-4350 load in my Sendero... it is slower than yours and the charge is well under max... but the harmonics make super tiny groups. No elk herem so a far more mellow choice for whitetails... I call it a .30-06 +P kinda load.

Congratulation on the elk and meat!

At that velocity for a close shot, how much blood shot meat did you find?
