Read a poorly put together story today on the possibility of the volcano near Sitka erupting. Seems magma movement and some minor earthquakes.

What’s the likelihood of causing a problem there?

You are asking us, here on this forum? smile

OK, I am not a volcanologist, nor do I play one on TV.

Probably insignificant. It has been dormant for a long, long time, but it is on the Ring of Fire. Anyone's guess.

Does that help? smile

Ask Harry R Truman... oh wait, that will be hard to do.

Keep the tires out of it and it’ll be ok.

What happens in Sitka stays in Sitka.
That's why they stuck it out there all by itself.

Thanks gents.

Sitka I have been to Mt St Helens. It's large eruption 1980 was my first-year uni studying geology. Still huge raft of tree trunks floating on Spirit Lake, which i think was 200ft higher now than Harry Trumans place.

Thanks MuskegMan! Article said 800yrs and was considered dormant or extinct, which seemed a big call.

I was going to college in Central Washington at the time and was on Moses Lake bowhunting carp when it blew. I got stuck there for several days and eventually went home by driving well north before driving back south on 97 to get back to school. There was a lot of ash! But then I went over the Cascades to play only to get stuck by the next eruption. I hunted down in the area for several years prior to the eruption.

Here in Anchorage we have had many volcanoes dust us. And there is much evidence of enormous ash dumps... Kodiak got almost 4' from Nova Erupta. (probably spelled that wrong)

Researched Edgecomb a bit.

800 years from last eruption, some tremors and uplifting earlier this year, sensors placed. Appears no imminent threat.

Don't worry, be happy.

We evacuated our C-17’s at Elmendorf for Redoubt, 2009 I think. One of our jets went to Japan- only to get ashes on there lol.

I was talking to a geologist around that time and asked her about Redoubt and her prediction.. she said “that’s the thing about geology- it could be 5 days or 50,000 years”

Puts things in perspective.
