This is your statement that got me thinking about galling on your new pistol. \/\/\/

"The gun was evidently pretty tight when I started. The slide locked back on my twice, the first two shots. After that, it did not happen again except when it should have done so. There was one failure to go completely into battery and I think that was probably my 11th or 12th shot. All it took was a little help to finish chambering the round that one time. It did not happen again."

Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.

Checked my handload log, and I'd used Longshot for some 3-1/2" 12 Guage loads. Memory is not so reliable...but those are some fire breathers for sure---can't forget that!!

Yes, I have done some work with True Blue in the 10mm using data I got via email from an Accurate Tech several years ago. I'll share my test results, but you need to work up yourself carefully.

I have three additional Ed Brown magazines, too, and I want to make sure all five of my mags work so each one will get a little workout.

Very nice 1911. I agree with those who recommend slower propellants than you're using. The old standby 2400 should be a good bet along with AA#9.

The 10mm is a magnum pressure chambering and needs the slower propellants to reach it's potential without going over pressure.

Thanks Bristoe. I have lots and lots of 2400, so I may give it a try.

More below.

I’m with Bristoe on this. I have been loading 2400 in 10mm for my Glock 20 with excellent results for probably 20 years or more. I had to put a 22 pound recoil spring from Wolff in. I use Starline brass and toss them after the second use.

I have been thinking about getting one of these for a little while... thank you for the write up on the gun... I have the Tisas government model 1911 A1 as I bought it as a fun truck gun that I would not be out much if something happened to it.. (in it 350 OTD)... All I can say it I was incredibly impressed with it... very accurate, tight and functions perfectly.... This is what got me thinking about the 10mm....

That's definitely not where I want to go. If I'd need to run 2400 that hard to get results, then I'll just nip that idea in the bud. Not that I'd say you're doing it wrong, I just don't want to go there.

I don't know if it's running it that hard. I'm getting 1300 fps (IIRC, it's been a long time since I chrono'd it) with 180 grain bullets. The 22 pound recoil spring was a response to extraction failure. My thought at the time (right or wrong) was that with the slow burner, chamber pressure may have still been a little too high or brass had not contracted quickly enough on firing and was slipping the extractor. I'm not sure I'm right about that, but going to the 22 pound spring solved the problem and the gun has been completely reliable ever since, even with factory .40 S&W ammo which I have loaded up into the Glock 20 mags and shot with no problems. Tossing the brass after 2 loads is just a response to the "Glock poorly supported case head syndrome"....just me playing it safe. It's not like I run through enough 10 mm ammo to be concerned about getting maximum usage out of my brass.

Thanks for the clarification.

In all honesty I totally missed your mention of the Glock. I'd play it safe too if I was shootng one.

It would be interesting to measure how long the throat is in your barrel. You should have at least 3/10".
Although your first cast loads were on the long side, they didn't seem long enough for the bullet shoulder to be hitting the rifling. The 10mm and 40sw have generous throats, unlike the 45acp and 9mm.
Just a thought.

I looked at the bullet that pulled out of the case when I tapped the slide open the second time. I saw no evidence of land engagement, but there did appear to be some displaced lead right where the shank diameter begins. That kinda surprised me. That much shank protrusion was never a problem with my XD40.

I may end up buying a mold before it's all said and done, but I wanted to use these bullets I already have because I have bunches and bunches. Maybe I should try some sized at .400" before I shop for a mold, though.

I been fiddling around with a 10mm for awhile and everything you think you know about loading pistol ammo goes out the window with the 10mm... In all circles when it comes to the 10mm. No mention of anything 2400, silhouette etc Everything migrates toward longshot, #9 and Blue dot, 800x was the go to powder for a long time but it pressure spikes fast. Longshot doesn't. I will say another decent powder is power pistol but its not mentioned much in the 10mm circles. All I use is longshot you will find majority of guy use longshot. If one is tossing brass after the second firing I would be seriously re-evaluating my loading practice with the 10mm. Im running a Gen 3 with a KKM barrel, Vickers triggers with a 3 1/2 lb spring, their is absolutely nothing stock about this pistol.

One last note if one is concerned about the "glock" bulge on the 10mm buy the lee bulge buster die.
