With a hammer style gun 70 to 80 gr of 3fffg and a maxi ball or sabot with 357 bullet will kill deer out to 126 yards with a 100 yards sight in also maybe a wad over the powder will help before the maxi ball or sabot {PEOPLE FORGET SO CALLED GUN WRITTERS }

Update on .45 hawken. Went from 80 grains fffg to 70 grains fffg behind a 285 grain great plains bullet and my 3 shot group tightened up to 1 5/16". @ 75 Yds. This will be my load for opening day muzzleloading season here in Tennessee. question is, is there plenty of energy @100 yds to do the job. Also cant find .45 cal. Great plains anywhere.

In my .45 Seneca I used 70 grians FF and a Maxi ball. Good accuracy and through and through penetration on deer. Mine likes 60 grains of FFF……no complaints from any of the deer she’s killed . Lead bullets, REAL bp….that’s the secret.

My old TC Hawken did great with the 220 maxi and 100 grains of DuPont ffg

put that 285g's behind the leg and start eating. i use 45gfff and a prb. flint or percussion, though i almost never shoot percussion anymore.
have a young friend that uses a .32 i built. 35g fff and a prb. never has had to run one down. placement.
