Hoping to shoot my whitetail this year with a 1911 H in 25/35. I just put a new stock on it, and mounted a 2 3/4X Kollmorgen Bear Cub via a Lightfoot mount. It has quite a bit of droop in the lever. I have given it few good strokes with a fairly heavy rubber mallet with very little if any movement. Is there any danger of breaking the lever?

Always a risk when doing such things, but a slight one. I think your error is in using a rubber mallet - it has too much "bounce". Try it with a rawhide mallet, it's what I always used. A wooden mallet should do it also. Perhaps a dead blow hammer? Employ a dial caliper for sure, to monitor progress.

Yeah, rubber won't do it. Hard plastic or brass face is best.

I've never had one snap. I was quite surprised at how malleable they seem to be.

I had a slam fire on a .300 that was pretty exciting. It slammed the bolt back and bent the hell out of the lever but didn't break it. Thank God I was at the rifle range with the muzzle down range.
