Mark shot a stag a couple of days ago (archery). Sorry no pics.

It was an average Sika stag... weighed #40 after field dressing... i.e. not much meat... BUT... Sika is so tender you eat them with a spoon.

They were imported from a small island in Japan to Maryland 100 years ago (or something like that) and have migrated to Virginia in the past few decades...

Random YouTube video on origin...

Random YouTube hunt...

It is just different... that is why I posted.

More to follow as the season progresses...

I do not know any of the people in the videos... just random grabs to fill in a couple of blanks for folks that do not know anything about Sika.

Haven’t been to the eastern shore in 21 years (remember that because wife was pregnant with our daughter). Need to get over there again soon.

Used to be really good flounder fishing off chincoteague.

Son arrowed this a couple years ago in Maryland.

They are small but pack a surprising amount of meat that is delicious.

Can be tough animals to kill due to living in the marsh. I could be wrong but I think these are different then the deer then you have in texas. While not necessarily native I believe we have had them here since the late 1800s early 1900s and are now thriving in the salt marsh. And they are very very good to eat.

Ain't that a fact...

I am not sure if I have ever had better (domestic or game).

Sitka hunt over there is in my short list.

A buddy I fish with from the eastern shore has killed a couple. Really neat critters

If y’all can find it, one of the meat eater episodes had a hunt for those critters in Maryland. It is worth watching especially for those planning a hunt there. Not an easy hunt in that marsh environment!

I keep telling myself that one of these days I'm gonna go down to Dorchester Co. and shoot one of those little rat bastards.

The sika stags in Britain get pretty big, maybe 150lbs, and have some pretty nice racks. Might be due to them living on estates with lots of food.

You should shoot one. By far best far best tasting wild game I’ve ever had

Sika is the correct spelling...

Sitka is an Alaska deer (black tail maybe).

Not trying to be rude... honestly it is a fairly common oops.
