I have a 3 year old Leupold RX1600 that works great in normal daylight conditions but at dusk or early morning the red reticle on it's lowest setting is too bright. It's extremely hard to see game and know that you're on the animal in low light. I'm told they get dimmer over time but I don't see any change yet. The Nikon I had prior had a black reticle and didn't have this issue but the Leupold is much better in normal light and long range.

I'm looking for some feedback from others on their RF’s performance in similar conditions.

I just checked my Leica's at 6:10 pm this evening and the view is great and it's ranging just like it does in the daylight. Damn near dark thirty and working good. To give an example, ranged a semi with it's hazards on at 2,200 yards and a house at 1,900 yards. Brush at 2,000 yards. New Geovids only ranging to 1,103, but with a much better view. Those are binoculars though.

The lower the light, the better they work, because it's ALL about reflection. Hint.

Reupold's suck ass. Leica's suck ass too. Hint.................

I was in my stand this morning about 40 minutes before sunrise. At that point the reticle is so bright it kind of blacks out the object you're aiming at. It will still range fine but you can't tell if you're actually on whatever you were trying to aim at. You can see the object before you hit the button but not after the reticle comes on. I checked again about 20 minutes later (still 15 minutes before sunrise) and the brightness isn't an issue. So it's just that first and last 10-15 minutes of legal shooting time. And these are smaller objects than trucks or houses that I'm trying to range. I can live with it but it's kind of annoying. I've never used it in snow or steady rain so I can't speak to that.

You have to actually hunt to know this [bleep]. Hint...............

Leica isn’t much of a barometer. Hint.

Was hitting single Caribou yesterday at 2200yds in yesterday’s flat light,on frozen snow covered tundra. Sig 6K 8x binoculars for THE win. Hint.

Actually flying to Alaska now,for a 6wk Hunt. No trees there however. Hint.

More power to all the Leica RF owners who are pleased with the performance. I have tried 3 different Geovids, one a 40039, and 2 different 3200.coms and haven't had one yet that would range as good as my lowly Sig 2200BDX. I've give up on them in spite of their superb optics. Sig's warranty is very misleading though, as it's 5 years from manufacture date, not the date you bought it. That's a very misleading and chickenschitttt way of doing business if you ask me.

Who cares about optics in a monocular RF? Maybe someone ranging billboards

Geovids are binos, in which I specifically referred to. Maybe Geovids haven't made it up to CT yet?

I started the thread to discuss RF performance in low light. But like most threads on this forum people want to make it about brand bashing.
How do your Geovids or your Sig 2200 work in low light?

All RF's work best in low light, the Geovid and Sig is no exception, but my particular Sig's RF was still better at longer ranges over 1000 yds.

Jill,

Your VERY Tender Feelers and Stupidity, are doing you no fhuqking favors. Hint.

Take notes and apply same. The lower the light, the better they work, because it's ALL about reflection. Hint...............

I was referring specifically to ranging animal sized objects in low light. It’s hard to do that if your reticle is too bright.

It’s on low. It’s still too bright in really dim conditions.

Bless your heart for trying so hard though.
