Can I convert a 308 to 250 Sav. and keep the same bolt?

yep, the bolt will work but you may end up with feeding issues depending on the rifle.

The very tapered case on the 250 MIGHT cause a few issues, might not. Every once in awhile a 250 case will pop up before the bolt is all the way forward on one of my rifles, but that ain't a problem once they get the Ackley treatment...

Went up and tried it, feeds fine from the H.S. Precision magazine. Now to see about trading for the parts I need.

The 250-3000 Ackley Imp was the second improved cartridge I had chambered. Done by PO himself. The first was an 8mm-06 Imp by Earl Leach in SW Ontario. Over the years I have had many more Imps, from the 17 Ackley Bee, to the 375 Wby, but none of them were more "improved" than the 250. Thirty years ago, 3200 fps with 100 gr bullets into half an inch out of a six pound rifle was hard to beat.....and it was hard on sheep. It was so good, I built another one! Ted

The rims on both cartridges are the same diameter, but the .308's rim is thicker.
I once had a customer who spent MANY hours one Utah winter swaging and making .22-250 cases from .308 brass (300 pieces or so), only to find they wouldn't work in his rifle! Because the .308 has a rim .540" think versus .490" or similar on the other round. I'd think a competent gunsmith could adjust the extractor, but check on this point.

Oops!
In my previous post the rim thicknesses should have been .0540 and .0490 inches! Sorry I forgot the two decimals.

I have made a bit of 250-3000 brass out of 308 brass when I had nothing else. Except for the thick necks needing to be turned, it was done easily.
Your customer clearly had other issues with his brass than rim thickness.

They do work for either. BTDT in both Rem and Sako.
