I normally shoot coyotes with a 243 using Federal 70 grain ballistic tips, which has been very effective. However I just purchased a T3 in 243, and it didn't seem to like this load. After sighting in, I only shot one 3-shot group that was around 3".

It did shoot the 85 grain TSX, Federal factory loads fairly well. I only had five of these shells. The 1st 3-shot group was around 3/4". The 2nd group (2 shots only) were touching.

If the TSX load proves to be the prevailing load (accuracy wise), should I use it on coyotes or search for another load more suitable for coyotes? I'm not a handloader, so I'm restricted to factory ammo.

This rifle also serves as a backup deer buster, so I'm happy it likes the TSX load.

Thanks for the advice.

I have killed a pile of coyotes with 100gr tsx's in my 257roy. pelt damage is pretty similar to my 25-06, 243, and 22-250. not enough diff between em all to make a better one. sans the 40gr 224 bullets.

I've hammered more than a few using my 264mag and 130 and 140 grain X bullets, and they always go bang flop. So use 'em if you feel so inclined.

I've had great luck with the federal premium 85gr Sierra Gameking HPBT load. Does a good job on deer too.

I've killed the sum total of 1 coyote with the 85 TSX. That one however was hit broadide at around 70 yards and just fell backwards into the ditch he had just climbed out of. Exit was about nickle size.
